Através dessa promessa, a Red Hat se compromete a manter suas patentes disponíveis para a comunidade open source em acordo com um conjunto de licenças open source aprovadas.

O livro mais recente de Erl, “SOA: Principles of Service Design”, acabou de ser lançado e é o primeiro título a focar exclusivamente na engenharia de serviços. Erl também está finalizando o “SOA Design Patterns”, título programado para ser lançado no final do ano. Sua série de livros terá mais quatro títulos em 2008; atualmente, 19 autores das principais organizações de SOA estão contribuindo com esses livros. Erl é também o autor de “Service-Oriented Architecture: Concepts, Technology, and Design” e “Service-Oriented Architecture: A Field Guide to Integrating XML and Web Services”.
