During this week’s OpenShift Administrator’s Office Hour live stream we answered several viewer questions and discussed OpenShift deployed to Red Hat Virtualization (RHV). Our guest Peter Lauterbach, product manager for RHV and OpenShift on RHV, highlighted the changes that have happened in OpenShift to expand support and capabilities when deployed to RHV. This includes, among other things, a CSI provisioner and automated pre-existing infrastructure, a.k.a. UPI, deployments using Ansible.

- A walk through of the new-to-OCP 4.6 UPI deployment
- Showing off the Red Hat Virtualization CSI provisioner
- Documentation:
- The OpenShift testing matrix, useful for determining which integrations, platforms, and their versions are tested with each OpenShift release.
- The CSI driver is deployed and configured automatically for IPI deployments. With other deployment methods, such as UPI or non-integrated, you’ll need to use the upstream oVirt CSI provisioner.
Other links and materials referenced during the stream:
- We had a question regarding learning OpenShift 3 vs OpenShift 4. One of the important considerations is the support lifecycle for the versions, which you can find more information here.
- Following up from last week, we reviewed the Cincinnati graph data repo and how it’s used to determine which source and destination OCP versions are eligible for updates and upgrades.
- A viewer asked about the difference, and applicability, of the 4.6-eus vs 4.6-stable update channels. You can hear our response during the stream with the above link. You can also find more information about OpenShift EUS here and the lifecycle support phases here.
