The upcoming Red Hat OpenShift Commons Gathering in London is taking place on April 1, co-located alongside KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe. OpenShift Commons Gatherings bring together users, partners, customers, contributors and upstream project leads to collaborate and work together across the OpenShift cloud-native ecosystem.
Next month’s event is shaping up to have a great line up of end-users who will be sharing use cases, insights into their workloads and lessons learned along the way. The event will also feature an Ask-me-Anything area, breakout sessions, labs and the presentation of the OpenShift Superhero Awards (nominations are now closed). Registration is currently open and here’s a peek at the lineup of mainstage speakers you won’t want to miss:
ABB
ABB's customers range from refineries, oil & gas, power generation and similar process industry companies. You can sense a theme here - most of their customers need to be extremely efficient, data-driven and leverage operations data from production sites, applications, cloud etc. Led by ABB’s Vikas Maurya and Anders Trosten, they will discuss how ABB has built the ABB Ability Edgenius for these customers - it is a central hub for operations data collection enabling data services and application hosting capabilities for applications like predictive maintenance and augmented plant operators. ABB Ability Edgenius leverages Red Hat OpenShift and Red Hat Device Edge, a lightweight Kubernetes container orchestration solution built from the edge capabilities of Red Hat OpenShift. In this session, they will talk about use cases deployed in production for customers and why ABB selected Red Hat Device Edge, and the importance of deploying at the edge and lightweight Kubernetes, as well as how ABB is incorporating AI technologies at the edge to deliver insights to their customers at the bleeding edge. They will show how ABB has built this system to be scalable and secure.
Adobe
Adopting OpenShift as a container orchestration platform promises significant scalability, operational efficiency, and developer productivity gains. However, organizations often face unique networking requirements that demand flexibility beyond OpenShift's default capabilities. Led by Kanika Gera and Remus Bunduc with Adobe, this presentation explores the adoption journey of OpenShift within their company, focusing on implementing a critical feature: Bring Your Own Container Network Interface (CNI), enabling the seamless integration of Cilium as the preferred CNI.
Cilium, powered by eBPF, offers advanced networking features, including network observability, scalability, and enhanced security. These capabilities align with the organization’s goals to achieve a modern, policy-driven networking model while addressing performance and compliance needs. In this talk, Adobe will detail the challenges they’ve encountered when adopting Bring Your Own CNI in OpenShift, covering the architectural considerations, configuration complexities, and integration workflows. They will highlight key lessons from enabling Cilium in the OpenShift environment, including improved network observability, enhanced application performance, and simplified microservices communication.
Vodafone
Managing the lifecycle of OpenShift clusters in production environments can be complex and challenging. In this session, Tom Kivlin with Vodafone will explore how Vodafone Networks has successfully implemented the Validated Patterns Operator in conjunction with GitOps to automate and simplify the lifecycle management of bare metal OpenShift clusters. The presentation will cover the key components and benefits of using this approach, including its role in driving end to end automation, and the lessons we've learnt so far in our journey. Attendees will gain valuable insights into the strategies and best practices for achieving efficient and reliable bare metal OpenShift cluster management, making this session a must-attend for organizations looking to enhance their cloud-native operations.
Wells Fargo
Shawn Bradley, Vip Patel, and Komron Iranzad with Wells Fargo will join Red Hat’s Kirsten Newcomer for a roundtable on artificial intelligence workloads on OpenShift. As AI and machine learning (ML) adoption accelerates, organizations face challenges in deploying, scaling, and managing AI/ML workloads efficiently. OpenShift provides a robust, scalable, and secure platform that empowers data scientists and engineers to streamline AI/ML development while maintaining enterprise-grade security and compliance that meet the strict controls in financial services.
Join this panel of industry experts as they discuss best practices for running AI/ML workloads on OpenShift, the role of Kubernetes in AI-driven applications, and real-world case studies demonstrating success in production environments. Whether you’re an AI/ML practitioner, DevOps engineer, or IT leader, this session will provide insights into optimizing AI/ML pipelines, leveraging GPU acceleration, and integrating OpenShift with MLOps workflows to drive innovation.
Worldpay
Matt Simons and Bernd Malmqvist with Worldpay will explore how Worldpay uses the “Platform as a Product” approach with Red Hat OpenShift to create an intuitive, highly automated self-service platform at scale for our internal teams. By treating the platform as a product, Worldpay focuses on prioritising the developer experience, fostering strong relationships, and leveraging inner-source practices. They’ll discuss how they’ve implemented this strategy, its key benefits, and practical outcomes, including enhancements in security and compliance and improvements in the overall user experience.
