Come programmato, Red Hat ha rilasciato la prima versione di test di Fedora 7. Sebbene la distribuzione non sia ufficialmente supportata dall'azienda del "cappello rosso", con sede nel North Carolina, USA, la comunita' di sviluppo sta pesantemente lavorando al suo miglioramento.
Com'era stato anticipato nelle scorse settimane da Bill Nottingham, ingegnere di Red Hat, Fedora 7 rappresenta l'unione tra "Core" ed "Extras". Se Fedora Core e' il "cuore" della distribuzione Linux "sponsorizzata" da Red Hat, "Extras" si e' sinora proposto come una libreria software, disponibile online, complementare a Fedora Core.
Fedora 7, per il momento rilasciata solo in versione "desktop", include numerose migliorie per quanto riguarda la gestione di dispositivi WiFi, le prestazioni generali del sistema, il supporto di file system crittografati. Da programma, la versione finale di Fedora 7 dovrebbe essere distribuita il prossimo 27 Aprile.
Pressoche' contemporaneamente con il rilascio della prima versione di test di Fedora 7, Rich Friedman - director of product management - ha dichiarato che all'interno di Red Hat si sarebbe avviato il processo per lo sviluppo di un nuovo sistema di aggiornamento dei vari prodotti in grado di operare sia con il sistema di update per Red Hat Enterprise Linux sia con quello destinato al software server basato sull'accoppiata Java-JBoss.
