Red Hat Updates Security Solution

Deeper integration with Red Hat Enterprise Linux advances Red Hat Certificate System.

RALEIGH, N.C -

Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced the worldwide availability of Red Hat Certificate System 7.2 from the RSA conference in San Francisco. A complete public key infrastructure (PKI) solution, Red Hat Certificate System 7.2 provides a security framework that guarantees the identity of users and ensures the privacy of communications in heterogeneous environments. The newest release includes enhancements that simplify deployment, management and integration of certificates as a core part of the security architecture in the enterprise.

Red Hat Certificate System 7.2 includes technologies that exceed both the security and performance required by the most demanding infrastructures. "The release of Red Hat Certificate System 7.2 incorporates a wide range of new and exciting key features that will expand the flexibility and ease of use of PKI," said Bob Lord, Senior Director of Security Engineering at Red Hat. "This new release allows enterprises to build the most secure authorization and communication infrastructure possible. We are excited to announce Red Hat Certificate 7.2 at the RSA Conference, while among the key security professionals in the industry who will truly understand the importance and credibility of this solution."

With a new simplified installation and configuration, Red Hat Certificate System 7.2 includes a new management infrastructure and interface based on Apache and Tomcat. A new security domain structure allows every server component of a PKI infrastructure to be automatically and securely registered as a component of the Certificate System architecture. The new release, with Red Hat Directory Server and Certificate System now as separate RPM packages, also carries a deeper integration with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Such modular configuration permits more granular management of updates and upgrades through Red Hat Network.

Red Hat Certificate System 7.2 features an improved interface for client-side management, simplifying end-user management of smartcards within a desktop environment. New smartcard management features allow smartcards to automatically and securely contact the appropriate server for functions like enrollment, PIN reset, and software upgrades. In addition, support for new heterogeneous platforms is extended for both client and server platforms. In addition to 32-bit X86 architectures, servers are now supported on 64-bit Intel and AMD Red Hat Enterprise Linux platforms. Client-side smartcard management architectures now also include support for OSX 32-bit PowerPC, in addition to Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows platforms.

August Schell is a provider of professional services to organizations involved in Defense and National Security with expertise in the areas of PKI, virtualization and directory server engineering. "With the release of Red Hat Certificate System 7.2, Red Hat is defining the standard for security. The solution is innovative in its ability to simplify deployment and management while managed users and connected systems grow," said Bill Schell, President of August Schell. August Schell supports Red Hat's Certificate System deployment at the US Department of Defense, where it provides strong value as a central component in the security of the national military infrastructure. The Department of Defense also turned to August Schell last year for enabling its smooth migration from Sun's Solaris operating system to Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The Department of Defense's entire PKI now successfully runs on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
