Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced developments in its Cloud Foundations portfolio that will promote consistency between enterprise applications and the cloud. Red Hat is the only open source vendor capable of delivering an open source, flexible cloud stack, incorporating operating system, middleware and virtualization. Furthermore, this stack is designed to run consistently across physical servers, virtual platforms, private clouds and public clouds. Red Hat's comprehensive solution set enables interoperability and portability.
"Red Hat has partnered with DreamWorks Animation on numerous projects, from core Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization to, most recently, cloud computing. DreamWorks Animation has always been at the vanguard of new technology adoption for strategic advantage and cloud is no exception," said Paul Cormier, president of Products and Technologies at Red Hat. "Our partnership with DreamWorks Animation has been a true collaboration and we're excited to work together to evolve the future of cloud computing with Cloud Foundations."
Comprehensive Approach to Cloud Computing
Red Hat introduced Cloud Foundations in June 2010 during the Red Hat Summit in Boston. Cloud Foundations includes Red Hat's comprehensive line of products for implementing a private cloud, coupled with a detailed reference architecture and implementation cookbook, consulting services and training offerings. Based on Red Hat's experience building public and enterprise clouds with its products, the solution was well-received by enterprises looking to build real clouds, today. Cloud Foundations: Edition One: Private "Infrastructure as a Service" Clouds is a software architecture enabling companies to both build and manage private clouds. Messaging, Real-time, Grid (MRG) is one of the primary software components of the Cloud Foundations architecture. MRG provides an advanced, scalable platform for managing high throughput and high performance compute environments.
Red Hat also announced today that DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. (Nasdaq: DWA) will utilize its Cloud Foundations to aid in the production of its future animated feature film releases.
"At DreamWorks Animation, cutting-edge technology is a key enabler to our creative ambition. Red Hat's Cloud Foundations provides a compelling platform to enable our cloud strategy, giving us the ability to quickly scale our compute needs to meet the demands of our productions," said Ed Leonard, DreamWorks Animation's CTO.
"We've been collaborating with Red Hat for the past year to ensure the MRG components of their Cloud Foundations meet our high end CG animation requirements. DreamWorks Animation is incorporating Red Hat's MRG into its production pipeline beginning this year," said Derek Chan, head of Digital Operations for DreamWorks Animation.
