Today, we’re pleased to announce the beta availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.4, the latest version of the world’s leading enterprise Linux platform. Engineered to help deliver enterprise-ready innovation and drive digital transformation from the datacenter to the edge and beyond, RHEL 8.4 Beta adds new capabilities and enhances existing features to further refine RHEL as a consistent foundation for the open hybrid cloud.
Key enhancements and new features for RHEL 8.4 Beta include:
-
Simpler, more flexible hybrid cloud adoption with improved subscription portability across cloud and on-premise environments as well as greater visibility into subscription deployments across hybrid cloud estates at scale.
-
Extended proactive management with new capabilities through Red Hat Insights services, including threat intelligence and security compliance reporting and subscription management, available wherever RHEL 8.4 Beta is deployed.
-
More powerful data visualization features that can create simpler views of complex system performance data thanks to the RHEL web console, Grafana dashboard and Red Hat Performance Co-Pilot.
Further updates in RHEL 8.4 add new curated programming languages and development tools through Application Streams, deeper integration with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform and enhancements to Red Hat Performance Co-Pilot for easier real-time management and visualization, just to name a few. The complete list of capabilities both new and enhanced in RHEL 8.4 Beta can be viewed in the release notes.
CentOS Stream and RHEL beta releases
With increased interest in CentOS Stream as a look at “what’s next” in RHEL, it’s important to note that RHEL betas are not the same as CentOS Stream. While CentOS Stream provides continuous delivery of new RHEL development, a RHEL beta release is a “point in time” of CentOS Stream that is then hardened and tested to make it ready for production previews.
Anyone can view or contribute to CentOS Stream at any time, while the latest RHEL beta release is accessible for subscription holders via the Red Hat Customer Portal. An individual developer may obtain a subscription by joining the Red Hat Developer Program.
