FROM THE EDITOR
Automation―now more than ever
With another successful AnsibleFest behind us (watch the recordings on demand at no cost), we thought automation would be a fitting topic for this issue.
But that’s not the only reason automation is on tech leaders’ minds: The novel coronavirus is forcing organizations to rethink how they do business. ComputerWeekly.com reports that “businesses will need to shore up their productivity through technology and automation to cope with the pandemic … .”
That’s exactly what Mass General Brigham did. The Boston-based healthcare system rolled out an artificial intelligence (AI)-based chatbot screening tool to alleviate traffic to its overwhelmed COVID-19 telephone hotline. And it won’t be the only organization turning to automation in these extraordinary times. According to an IDC Survey (purchase required to download), 70% of survey respondents have deployed (35.7%) or plan to deploy (34.3%) process automation software in the next year.
Pandemic or not, the success of your digital transformation journey is tied to your ability to automate all aspects of your operation. And IT pros seem to know this: In our own (totally unscientific) Twitter poll, 86.1% of respondents said automation is extremely or somewhat important to their organizations.
In this issue of Red Hat Shares, learn about different types of automation and check out an IT leader’s guide, a webinar about business automation based on AI, Microsoft’s automation success story, and more.
