Red Hat has announced the release of Red Hat Decision Manager 7. Decision Manager is the evolution of Red Hat JBoss BRMS and provides a platform to develop rules-based applications and services.
As applications and services become more central to business strategies, business users will become increasingly involved in the development process. Software that aids in creating applications without directly writing code is known as low-code development. Decision Manager provides tools, including an updated UI and enhanced wizards, that help business users participate more actively in application development.
Major Use Cases
Decision service as a microservice
Decision Manager has a more modular architecture, such as a decision service, an execution server, and a management interface. Each component can be containerized and deployed as an image on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform. Developers can create discrete services for specific needs and deploy those “micro-rules” in a microservices architecture. This approach is covered more in another blog post.
Standard-based modeling
Decision Modeling Notation is a standard the defines business rules and workflows. Having a common, well-understood language allows business users and developers to collaborate more effectively. Decision Manager can be used to execute existing DMN-compliant decision models.
Resource planning and common business problems
The Business Optimizer tool provides a visual, highly flexible way to model and test resource allocations for a business. This can include improving routing and travel, work assignments and employee management, asset assignments, and other scheduling and resource problems. Business Optimizer can work with business automation templates.
Feature Highlights
Better UI for a better experience
The overall UI has been redesigned for simpler navigation and to provide simpler workflows and wizards for core tasks, such as creating decision tables.
Separate decision and execution servers
The core operations of Decision Manager are divided into two servers:
- Decision Central, a decision server, which is the central administrative server
- An execution server (or multiple execution servers), which carry out the rules processing and other operations.
A smart router has also been added, to route traffic between multiple execution servers.
New metrics dashboards
The previous Contributors page in Red Hat JBoss BRMS has been split into two new dashboards for projects and for teams. These dashboards collect specific metrics for each area.
New support for templates
Decision Manager supplies default templates which can be modified and edited by users, and additional templates can be downloaded from the Customer Portal.
PMML support for predictive modeling (tech preview)
Predictive Model Markup Language (PMML) has been implemented for several different model types to enable different types of data analysis for business processes.
