SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - —
Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that it honored IAG, a multinational insurance company, with a 2017 Red Hat Innovation Awards APAC for Australia and New Zealand at the Red Hat Forum Sydney on 24 October for its outstanding and innovative usage of Red Hat solutions. IAG was recognized in the Cloud Infrastructure and Open Source Way categories.
Echoing the theme of the Red Hat Forum APAC 2017, “Impact of The Individual,” the Red Hat Innovation Awards APAC recognize and celebrate enterprises which use open source to address IT challenges, transform and modernize information technology to help accelerate innovation, and achieve greater agility and efficiency. All winners were evaluated by a panel of experts from Red Hat.
IAG is the parent company of a general insurance group with controlled operations in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. Due to its large scale, it was necessary to consolidate its infrastructure and the multiple silos it had grown into to create a single data organization and displace the costs it was incurring. IAG decided to move to the cloud with the help of Red Hat Consulting and use open source tools including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Red Hat Virtualization, Red Hat Satellite, and Red Hat Ansible. The result was a platform that can develop and deliver better solutions to customers more efficiently, and can better maintain customer satisfaction. Through the project, IAG also started recognizing the value of open source, and now has a number of engineers contributing to various open source projects, with plans to open source some of its newly developed solutions.
The Cloud Infrastructure category recognizes a collaborative public, private or open hybrid cloud deployment. The Open Source Way category recognizes leading innovation by building an open source culture, contributing to community projects, and using open source technology to support a broad range of applications and business services.
Since the inception of the Red Hat Innovation Awards APAC, Red Hat has witnessed more innovative use of open source solutions in the region. IAG and Qantas are using open source to transform its IT infrastructure, as well as to accelerate digital transformation.
As part of the 14-stop Red Hat Forum APAC event series, winners for the Red Hat Innovation Awards APAC will be announced at each stop. This year’s winners include companies from verticals such as banking, finance, government, insurance, technology, telecommunications and transportation.

"Before the project, we were faced with different versions of information, making it impossible to make an informed business decision. Red Hat had been a trusted partner of IAG and was the natural choice for us when we set out to consolidate the system. Thanks to this project, we are now able to have greater visibility of what our customers are thinking and better serve their needs. This award speaks to the success of not just our business, but also of open source, and we look forward to creating a more beneficial community for all. "
