As ANZ Bank set out to improve the financial well being and sustainability of customers through its portfolio of services, tools, and insights, it recognized very early on the importance of investing in digital to modernize workloads and differentiate itself from competitors. With their current implementation of Red Hat OpenShift 3.11 approaching end of life, the bank worked with their account team and Red Hat Consulting to develop a roadmap that would enable them to migrate their existing applications to Red Hat OpenShift 4, while minimizing risk and avoiding any major disruption.
To do this, ANZ Bank used Red Hat Service Interconnect, a solution that enables agile, portable and secure communication across environments. The solution helped the bank to more securely connect applications across environments, enabling developer teams to move them as they were ready, without needing elevated privileges or dependencies on network operations. This resulted in a streamlined migration and improved developer experience, as well as maintaining uninterrupted transactions for the bank’s retail and commercial customers. Digitalizing these workflows has reduced the amount of engineering resources required to complete the project.
Shifting IT architectures can be a very complex and lengthy process, especially when you take into consideration the costs and risks involved. Migrating our OpenShift applications presented similar challenges. The Red Hat team worked closely with us to evolve and help bring Red Hat Service Interconnect to market and enable us to take advantage of the agility and scalability that it offers. This has allowed us to not only increase the productivity of our developers but also retain a high level of customer satisfaction. With the success we’ve seen on the initiative, we can rightly say that our decision to go digital-first in investments has been the right one in these economic times.

years ago by launching the country’s first
branchless bank. ING now offers Australians home
loans, transactional banking, superannuation, credit
cards, personal lending, insurance, and wholesale
banking services. Today, ING is Australia’s most

and has been since 2020.
As a longtime Red Hat customer, ING has used Red Hat solutions to improve automation, drive efficiency and accelerate cloud adoption. Working with Red Hat has allowed ING to accelerate the adoption of a microservices based architecture. ING’s technology department was further faced with the task of integration and operations of traditional and modern cloud based workloads across the bank’s existing ecosystems. As the oldest and largest state-owned bank in the country, Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) is currently
one of the largest Indonesian companies in terms of market capitalization. Traditionally focused on
providing banking services for micro, small, and medium enterprises, BRI wanted to generate new revenue
streams via retail banking and had to adapt to the shifting demands of consumers that were increasingly
digital-minded. To attract a younger demographic, BRI launched its BRI mobile banking app (BRImo) in 2019.
However, this version of BRImo was unable to be scaled up to keep pace with customer demands.
To provide fast, efficient, safe and easy-to-access financial services to capture this group of potential customers, BRI turned to Red Hat to modernize its enterprise applications and optimize the BRImo app. The use of Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform has allowed BRI to improve the scalability, agility, and responsiveness of BRImo, leading to higher customer satisfaction and retention. These upgrades have led to a 68% YoY user growth for BRImo in 2022.

In addition, using Red Hat OpenShift, together with
Ansible Automation means Bank OCBC NISP’s IT teams
can automate repetitive tasks, freeing up time to focus on more high-value activities, which can increase
efficiency and productivity. This collaboration helps improve the customer experience for ONe Mobile customers,
namely the mobile banking application for Bank OCBC NISP individual customers.
The ONe Mobile application, which was launched in 2018, is a mobile banking application that helps Bank OCBC NISP's individual customers to grow and manage their finances. As of June 2023, the number of ONe Mobile transactions has increased by 63% and the transaction value has increased by 67% YoY. This shows good acceptance from customers of ONe Mobile's features that can support their financial needs, both for their wealth management and for daily transactions (daily banking).

In order to promote agile method correctly rather than self-initiated, Tokio Marine & Nichido selected Red Hat, as their external coach. In expanding agile development structure on a large scale, Tokio Marine & Nichido faced resource issues, which it overcame entering into quasi-agreement with multiple IT vendors and conducting development in a scrum that included a mix of IT vendors and in-house personnel. This has allowed agile methods to expand to 400 people and work on 10 new development projects simultaneously. Through the support of Red Hat Open Innovation Labs, which were designed based on Red Hat's open philosophy, a company culture change involving management and business departments has progressed, contributing significantly to the transformation of the entire group, including local companies overseas.
Agile method is a pillar of Tokio Marine & Nichido's efforts to expand their business domain in order to transform its business model. The company will continue to release agile and high quality products to improve customer satisfaction while providing high quality services in the core insurance business as they have in the past. Also, they believe these products will be a driving force to provide unprecedented services in the pre- and post-insurance areas.
It has been about four years since we started working on "serious" Agile with the support of Red Hat, and I feel that our hypothesis-testing business offerings and "Be Agile" corporate culture have taken root. As agile organizations expand, the need for more and more specialized personnel is increasing, and our relationship with our partners is also changing. We believe that it is important to promote new initiatives with our partners as One Team, so we conduct joint human resource development with our partners (training of newcomers, training programs for specialized personnel, etc.) and daily open communication between product owners and engineers from each company. In addition, we promote independence and autonomy of the scrum team by holding weekly management level meetings attended by each partner company to promptly resolve issues that cannot be resolved within the scrum team. We will continue to take on the challenges of new initiatives required in this new era in order to continue to transform our organization and culture.

Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. is a

network. In expanding its business, Hitachi
Construction Machinery has positioned North America
as one of the most important markets, but they faced
two challenges – the innovation of the development
process within Hitachi Construction Machinery and
the shortening development lead time in order to
fulfill the local requests. This is because Hitachi
Construction Machinery had a mix of legacy and
modern systems, and there was a need to radically
address many issues in order to promote data
connection and data utilization.
Hitachi Construction Machinery responded to this challenge by launching the Dealer Network Acceleration (DNA) project to improve operational excellence and dealer experience. To drive this project, they selected Red Hat Open Innovation Labs, which provides organizational learning support to implement innovation quickly and boldly by leveraging digital. The organizational transformation offered by Open Innovation Labs was a deciding factor to adopt Red Hat, as it was important for the business unit to take the lead in implementing innovation to achieve their goals.
Experts from Red Hat Consulting were committed to a result that satisfied each of Hitachi Construction Machinery and it’s subsidiary in Americas, Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas Inc., and worked collaboratively to solve business challenges using Open Innovation Labs' technology and open source methodologies. Through the DNA project, solution to improve operational efficiency was developed for Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas and its dealers. For example, the implementation of a single sign-on capability that connected an aging legacy system with a modern system of Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas was quickly rolled out globally, totally saving 300 to 600 hours of labor per month and increasing overall productivity. By organizing each business API, they were able to promote data utilization and create an environment conducive to business expansion. The award was given to the company for its ability to promote scrum development and self-organization in a short period of time and for proving that a business company can do full-scale agile development comparable to that of a venture company.
We were very apprehensive about starting agile activities as a sales department and not as IT experts, but we were so impressed by expertise and dedicated support of Red Hat Japan’s technical Samurai, that we obtained a special temporary budget which gave us the opportunity to start the activities. This project has started 2 years ago with zero budget and 5 members, and today we have 43 dedicated team members. Over the past 2 years, we have had 64 discussions with the US team and 77 with the DX department, with 35 successful releases in the last year. This is the result of the strong leadership of the eight executive officers of the Steering Committee and the cooperation of all parties involved beyond the walls of the business units. This is a small but very meaningful progress toward "Solution 3.0," our mid-term plan "BUILDING THE FUTURE 2025" to provide innovative customer-oriented solutions, and we are very proud of this high evaluation.

For better use of cloud computing services, KEPCO KDN worked with Red Hat to accelerate its cloud transformation journey. KEPCO KDN built its own automation-based cloud platform K-ECP(KDN Energy Cloud Platform), using Red Hat technologies, and is continuing to transform existing legacy systems into cloud-native ones to serve internal and external operations. Through the project, KEPCO KDN has delivered better user experiences for customers and modernized its applications while increasing the speed of app development as an energy ICT platform organization.
Having identified open source as a key accelerator of cloud services, KEPCO KDN worked with Red Hat due to its open source and cloud expertise. The project has transformed KEPCO into a cloud-native organization, with KEPCO becoming the only public corporation certificated as a cloud support service provider by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

Founded in 1895, the National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) has nurtured countless professionals in medicine.
It is renowned for the clinical care it offers and is highly trusted by the people of Taiwan.
NTUH currently employs over 6,700 staff, with a capacity of around 2,600 beds, and serves over 8,000 outpatients on a daily basis.
Hospital business processes require privacy protection and prevention of external attacks and internal misuse when interacting with external systems,
which help prevent unauthorized access and data breaches. The growth and changes in hospital operations also necessitated a solution
that would allow NTUH to quickly respond to business growth and changes.
Working with Red Hat has allowed NTUH to monitor and integrate applications, emphasizing security and privacy protection, and to have flexible scalability to meet the business needs of its hospitals. Red Hat solutions enhanced NTUH’s efficiency, reduced risks and facilitated business growth and adaptation.
NTUH has always developed its primary medical systems in-house, with minimal utilization of open source solutions as part of its infrastructure. Consequently, we have limited familiarity with open source solutions. Kesehatan is one of two social security agencies in

To improve customer experience, BPJS Kesehatan adopted a cloud-native approach by deploying Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and Red Hat Enterprise Linux . By implementing an e-queue service on its mobile app and physical kiosks at the hospital, patient experience was enhanced by reducing the time patients needed to wait before seeing a doctor. Red Hat solutions also enabled BPJS Kesehatan to be faster to market with feature rollouts on its mobile app, reducing the agency’s development and deployment time.

After more than 30 years of operation and business
expansion, NTT DOCOMO’s cell phone service system
had become extremely complex causing operational
difficulties. In order to maintain and enhance the
competitiveness of the network in the future, it was
necessary to reduce operational costs, modernize
applications and apply a microservices
NTT DOCOMO welcomed Red Hat to its team in order to quickly deliver industry-standard development methodologies and exceptional technical expertise in the use of microservices and container environments. The team at NTT DOCOMO and Red Hat achieved a 52% reduction in source code and a 75% reduction in the number of operational screens, resulting in increased productivity. In addition, OpenShift has enabled NTT DOCOMO to update its IT infrastructure and create a system that enables them to develop applications efficiently and operate with agility. As a result, NTT DOCOMO has been able to shorten its release cycle by about half compared to the past. NTT DOCOMO will continue to promote DX and pursue efficiency in its telecommunications business.
NTT DOCOMO aims to create new customer experiences and value that exceeds expectations through the enhancement of 5G's high-quality and economical network. The 5G core solution developed through close collaboration between NEC and Red Hat is now in operation in NTT DOCOMO's 5G commercial service.
With this adoption, NTT DOCOMO has achieved scalable and optimal resource control of its 5G infrastructure, enabling faster deployment of its 5G SA plans while reducing operational and resource costs.
We have launched a 5G network using the stand-alone (SA) method, which demonstrates the true value of 5G. Red Hat's open source technology combined with NEC contributed greatly to the introduction of the ’5G core’ required to provide SA services, improving operational stability and fault tolerance. We also believe that by balancing the existing network with new technologies, we have established flexibility for the future. To address these issues and uplift their public service delivery standards, KLID developed a next-generation cloud-based administrative work system to reform their local governments’ tax and revenue administration processes. Lotte Card is a South Korean credit card company
founded by the Lotte Corporation, the largest
distribution and varied service network in the
country. Established in December 2002, Lotte Card
issues credit cards, payment plans, leasing, loans,
and cash advance options to over nine-million people
nationwide and employs over 1,700 individuals.
In 2020, the South Korean government introduced the MyData program to help citizens better manage their finances by allowing access to financial data from different institutions on a single platform, which required the transmission of personal credit information across financial institutions. Lotte Card was keen to support MyData in order to maintain their overall market competitiveness, but required new applications to optimize their system’s performance and comply with data regulations. Lotte Card turned to open source solutions Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform with Integration, Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Virtual Datacenters and Red Hat Enterprise Linux to form the new base system of their finance platform, and integrate it reliably with external financial systems.
This year, Lotte Card has positioned themselves as a ‘digital curating company’, continuously accelerating in providing new digital services and cloud migration. As a result, their monthly active users are expected to surpass 4 million users within this year.
Lotte Card was keen to support the government’s MyData Program, due to the immense benefits it provided to our end users. The Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) manages the Taiwan High Speed Rail, consisting of one line that runs approximately 220 miles along the west coast of Taiwan, from the capital Taipei to the southern city of Kaohsiung. When it was built in 1998, it was one of the world's largest privately funded rail construction schemes and cost over NT$513 billion.
The THSRC is facing an increase in passenger demand from today’s digital customers. For instance, the number of high-speed rail tickets searched for through mobile phones increased significantly, negatively impacting the speed and stability of the ticketing systems and resulting in longer passenger wait times. To improve business agility and the customer experience, THSRC modernized its core systems with Red Hat® OpenShift® and Red Hat® Ansible® Automation Platform. The project aims to migrate its legacy infrastructure to the cloud in order to support the local government’s increasing workloads and improve efficiency within their administrative task system.
The city deployed multiple Red Hat solutions to power this project over five years, including Red Hat Virtualization, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, and Red Hat OpenStack Platform. This year, the city deployed Red Hat OpenShift to build a software-defined data center cloud environment. Collectively, the solutions provided Daegu City the flexibility needed to build a more stable, efficient infrastructure that helped improve delivery speed of IT services to its citizens and reduce costs by 36%. These new standards set for its cloud data centers also help attract new business and job opportunities in the city. This will help bring a positive impact to the overall application development environment, boosting open source innovation, with vendor lock-in out of the way.

ANZ is a multinational banking and financial

ANZ’s internet banking platform uses a core banking application which since 2005 was heavily customized to its needs but has passed its end of life date and has been on extended support for more than 12 years. To future-proof the reliability and effectiveness of its internet banking platform, ANZ decided to adopt a containerized platform to remain architecturally aligned with the core banking platform upgrade path.
With the help of Red Hat Consulting, ANZ deployed Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Runtimes as the foundation of its internet banking platform in early 2020. Collectively, Red Hat solutions enabled the bank to implement the latest core banking application version (11.9) in production in July 2020 while running and migrating existing services from the original. ANZ managed to process AU$2.9 billion worth of scheduled payments within the first hour of implementing Red Hat OpenShift and the new core banking platform version in production. It also saw an increase in the number of internet banking users smoothly completing transactions during the peak hour of the first day of deployment. Additionally, ANZ was running 30 per cent of its customer traffic on the new infrastructure within four months of confirming the architectural decision.
With Red Hat OpenShift, ANZ will be able to reuse the internet banking services that are upgraded and transitioned for the bank’s other channels such as its mobile banking application. This empowers the bank to run faster and deliver consistent user experience across multiple digital channels for its 2.4 million active internet banking customers. Red Hat solutions also enabled the bank to comply with the regulatory obligation of ensuring continued stability and availability of its critical customer-facing systems, processing approximately AU$1.2 billion in payments each day. So far, its unplanned outage time for internet banking has reduced by approximately 80 per cent.

Its core systems were also not connected to other business systems – such as customer relationship management, loyalty and policy application – which prevented it from having a single view of its customers.
To overcome those challenges, ManipalCigna sought Red Hat Consulting’s help to revamp its IT platforms and applications using Red Hat 3scale API Management, Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat Decision Manager and Red Hat Fuse. This provides a robust platform that enables applications to elastically scale without manual intervention, which helps improve the performance of its payment systems for policy transactions and respond to market needs faster. Red Hat Fuse also offered enhanced ease of integration with other systems. ManipalCigna shortened the partner onboarding process from 37 days to seven days, allowed exchange of information seamlessly within the organization and with its partners, and gained a 360-degree view of its customers to deliver a unified experience across various channels. Additionally, the company saw API-driven transactions increasing from 20% to 95% as Red Hat 3scale API Management enabled it to easily isolate real business value against enquiries and stop unnecessary traffic to the APIs by monitoring transactions.

_VOIS started its cloud journey by engaging Red Hat Consulting for a Red Hat container adoption program to learn the best practices for DevOps adoption, including agile, continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) and automated testing. It then deployed Red Hat OpenShift as the orchestration and automation layer for its private cloud, which was built on Red Hat OpenStack Platform. To further encourage enterprise-wide DevOps adoption, _VOIS built a Development Environment as-a-service (DevaaS) using Red Hat Cloud Suite, Red Hat Ceph Storage and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. It also added multiple services to the DevaaS, including Red Hat CodeReady Workspace.
With Red Hat OpenShift, _VOIS accelerated time-to-market by centralizing and standardizing its application development environment and compliance analysis for a consistent multi-cloud experience. This helped it move from a traditional, waterfall approach to iterative DevOps processes and a CI/CD workflow. As a result, it can develop new apps and features faster with 49% and 56% improvement respectively. Project life cycles have also been shortened to weeks instead of three to six months, from inception to delivery. Red Hat OpenShift also helped enhance security and compliance by providing a unified management interface across _VOIS’ infrastructure and built-in Security Enhanced Linux (SELinux) capabilities. By establishing an approach for controlling costs and increasing profit margins, _VOIS can reallocate resources to higher-value projects to address new business opportunities faster.

NTT DOCOMO expects to halve its infrastructure development time, operational costs and man-hours by 2022 by using Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform to automate all of its IT processes, such as configuration management, provisioning, and deployment of servers, networks, storages, cloud, security and applications.

In a joint effort with Fujitsu, a provider of IT services and products, RIKEN developed the supercomputer Fugaku aimed at responding to immediate social and scientific issues. These issues cover the areas of bioscience, disaster prevention, environmental issues, energy, manufacturing, and fundamental science. Results from the studies will contribute to the development of technology in these areas and enhance industrial competitiveness. The facilitation of leading edge infrastructure on Fugaku and the operational technologies developed can also be used in the information area such as big data and artificial intelligence (AI).
RIKEN and Fujitsu adopted Red Hat Enterprise Linux as Fugaku’s operating system. Red Hat Enterprise Linux provides a more consistently predictable and reliable interface in the supercomputing environment, which enables Fugaku to be productive and reliable, while being user-friendly and compatible with other software. This enables Fugaku to be fully compliant with various standards of Arm-based processors. Red Hat Enterprise Linux also provides streamlined update management for easier administration and opens up additional avenues for hybrid cloud computing in the future.
While Fugaku is scheduled to be fully operational in fiscal year 2021, RIKEN has provided some of Fugaku’s computing resources to support research and development efforts needed to address the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, Fugaku was used for medical research, including, predicting dynamic structure of proteins of the novel coronavirus and identifying potential drug candidates to combat the virus. RIKEN is also using Fugaku for simulation analysis to better understand how the COVID-19 infection spreads and the resulting socioeconomic impacts of the virus.
Fugaku is near completion, after 10 years since its initial conception to achieve two goals in the world of supercomputers. One is to be the pinnacle of information technology, i.e., showing the highest performance running a wide range of applications while having high versatility. We were able to achieve three times the performance and power efficiency with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, without making any changes to the operating system, on the Arm-based A64FX processor developed jointly with Fujitsu. This performance makes Fugaku the world’s first exascale machine and is 100 times better than what the K computer achieved when it was constructed. The other is to address high-priority social issues that are of great public interest. such as the achievement of Society 5.0. We are currently running various applications to address issues caused by COVID-19, with Red Hat Enterprise Linux providing the operating system backbone. The findings have direct impact on the government’s formulation of infection prevention guidelines. We will continue our research and development using Fugaku to further industrial innovation and find solutions to social issues.

After November 2020, both organizations expect to be able to launch a new service in several months, deploy a new feature or application every day, and reduce the development and operation costs to a third.
With Red Hat OpenShift Dedicated as our platform for application development, SMFG and Japan Research Institute can quickly release new digital services and continuously update them with new features. We’ll also adopt the agile development methods we’ve learnt from this project as our new standard way of developing digital services. To achieve its vision of becoming an Intelligent Cloud Computing Center, NIRS Daegu Center’s planning team is building a software-defined data center (SDDC) for its government cloud.
The SDDC will accelerate cloud migration for government and public organizations to support the South Korean government’s “cloud first’ initiative. It will offer an automated infrastructure through software-defined compute, network, and storage, to provide a standardized platform that can effectively support artificial intelligence (AI), big data and Internet of Things (IoT) services. NIRS used multiple Red Hat solutions to power the SDDC including Red Hat Cloud Suite, Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Red Hat Virtualization, Red Hat Ceph Storage, Red Hat Gluster Storage, Red Hat JBoss Web Server, Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, Red Hat Runtimes and Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Virtual Datacenters. The SDDC is also supported by Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, Red Hat Smart Management and Red Hat Integration.
The SDDC will empower NIRS Daegu Center to provision faster infrastructure services through cloud and reduce its IT spend through optimization. NIRS Daegu Center aims to connect the disparate work systems (currently around 580 work systems across 80 public institutes) of its occupants and enables it to centrally manage the underlying IT infrastructure, and free up more time for its occupants’ IT staff to focus on enhancing services for citizens.

To maintain its competitive edge in the saturated digital banking space, AmBank decided to create an end-to-end application to digitally onboard local small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
AmBank engaged Red Hat Open Innovation Labs to learn how to adopt DevOps and agile development processes. After the five-week program, the bank created standard operating procedures for managing upcoming agile application projects. It also used Red Hat OpenShift to build a continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline for its applications. Since the new app automates some compliance processes such as credit, risk and company checks, it reduces the complexity of the onboarding process, minimizes the number of visits to physical branches and helps prevent churn of SME customers. Red Hat also enabled AmBank to embrace a culture of collaboration across teams, which will help reduce overall defects, requirements mismanagements and coding defects. This ultimately helps improve its speed-to-market and overall business agility.

SOCSO, otherwise known as PERKESO, is one of the
government departments under Malaysia’s Ministry of
Human Resources. It covers all social security
provisions and administration for workers in
Malaysia. The PERKESO Social Security Protection is
based on the concept of joint responsibility through
the pooling of resources, sharing of risk and
replacement of income, and it aims to provide social
security protection to employees and their
dependants through its various schemes.
PERKESO needed to transform its services through rebranding as part of the Pelan Transformasi PERKESO 2017, which supports the organization’s overall Strategic Plan 2016-2020. This called for the organization to modernize its legacy remuneration systems, which consists of modules that are hard-wired with codes and integrated with isolated web services and batch processing scripts. PERKESO deployed Red Hat Enterprise Linux to run its servers, and developed new applications that are modular and integrated with Red Hat Fuse. It also built business processes and workflows with Red Hat Process Automation Manager and deployed them on Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform and Red Hat JBoss Web Server.
By doing so, PERKESO reduced operational cost, extended the availability of its services and ensured that its services reached more stakeholders (i.e., employers and employees registered with PERKESO). About 400,000 employers can now perform transactions such as contribution submissions and payments via PERKESO’s new digital channels instead of having to visit a physical branch. Meanwhile, employees can access their profiles and contribution-related information in PERKESO’s online systems, enabling them to be a more informed contributor. Additionally, the online channels helped the organization deliver a better user experience and reduce the number of user complaints. They can also accommodate more stakeholders to ensure self-employees, such as taxi drivers and drivers working for e-hailing services, are protected under PERKESO.

It also aimed to provide better customer satisfaction in regions with increasing digital penetration like GCNA (Greater China & North Asia), ASA (ASEAN & South Asia) and AME (Africa & Middle East). To achieve these goals, it adopted Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, Red Hat JBoss Web Server and Red Hat Fuse to increase productivity and develop and deploy applications faster.
The bank’s RPBWM (Retail, Private Banking & Wealth Management) Digital Channels team, supported by Red Hat Consulting, was able to utilize Red Hat OpenShift to accelerate the revamp of the legacy channel applications (internet banking and mobile banking) into a microservices driven, cloud-native solution.
By adopting Red Hat OpenShift, the bank saw a reduction in infrastructure cost, the ability to scale up and support a several-fold increase in traffic, reduced time to deploy and go-to-market for applications, and a greatly simplified production rollout and recovery process.
The platform also played a critical role in the rapid roll-out of digital banking capabilities for several countries in the AME region by improving overall time-to-market and reduced total cost of ownership.

Chunghwa Telecom is an integrated telecommunication
service provider in Taiwan. It offers domestic and

With each business unit running on its own data center, Chunghwa Telecom found it challenging to centrally manage its multiple data centers and ensure operational efficiency. This spurred the telco to move its mobile business group’s legacy business support systems (BSS) to private cloud, and migrate some existing applications to a new microservices architecture by using Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat Fuse, Red Hat AMQ, Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The mobile business group also deployed APIs on Red Hat OpenShift to simplify facility management, issue tracking, HR management, real-time billing, order management and e-commerce.
The new microservices architecture allowed Chunghwa Telecom’s mobile business group to shorten its software development life cycle from three months to 14 days. It has also reduced its services deployment time from one day to 10 minutes.
Modernizing our BSS with Red Hat’s flexible open source solutions has given us the confidence to be able to adapt to changing customer expectations quickly and effectively. GSB needed a way to speed up time-to-market for new products amidst customer interest in digital financial services offerings while staying ahead of security risks. To deliver this, GSB started an initiative to develop an open banking platform that would host its APIs and provide managed services to both internal and external parties with strong security capabilities.
GSB migrated to an open source environment based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Application Runtimes, Red Hat 3Scale API Management, Red Hat JBoss Fuse and Red Hat OpenShift, with Red Hat Consulting’s help. By using lightweight APIs with microservices, DevOps and container technologies on top of the environment to automate business processes and improve their process efficiency, GSB was able to optimize costs and launch new digital banking services, helping to improve its customer relationships, speed to market and business agility. With a more modern platform for innovation, GSB has been able to provide premium service quality to its customers.

KBTG is the tech venture of Kasikorn Bank (KBank),
one of Thailand’s largest banks. It works as an
in-house developer, and partners with fintech firms
and tech startups to enhance its digital financial
products and provide excellent service delivery
amidst changes in the financial sector.
Since KBTG initially deployed many critical business applications on proprietary application servers on the UNIX operating system, it struggled to address changing business requirements in an agile manner and to reduce IT operational costs as the business grew. It also faced limitations in terms of adopting containers as its existing application servers were not lightweight. As such, KBTG’s infrastructure team, K Pro, needed to manually manage its IT infrastructure to ensure that its critical applications were always up and running.
KBTG overcame these challenges by deploying Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform to run its Java applications, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform to automate network and security management, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux as its stable foundation for all IT workloads and deployments. The new lightweight infrastructure allowed the K Pro team to use component architectures, living documentation and a common toolset. This helped to reduce configuration sprawl, deliver IT resources at speed to support new business demands and free up more IT budget for innovation instead of maintenance, making the K Pro team more productive. The security and reliability of KBTG’s systems increased and allowed KBTG to focus on innovating at the speed and scale required to improve KBank’s customer service.

FarEasTone Telecommunications (FET) is a leading company in Taiwan, providing telecommunications and digital application services. The telco developed an IoT platform, named Connect All Things (CAT), for its teams to assist customers in building IoT products. In the increasingly fragmented IoT market, CAT helps customers reduce the time to market of their products and create remarkable performance. Therefore, FET required a faster product development process with higher quality to better convey the value of the company.
With help from Red Hat Consulting, FET integrated its CI/CD tool chain with Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, the industry’s most comprehensive enterprise Kubernetes platform. The new and improved CAT platform provides a visual and programmable rule engine, enabling users to easily create their own monitoring dashboard. CAT also provides several features to help users accelerate their development and deployment of application services. With improved security and load capacity, FET is now better poised to make use of 5G capabilities when developing future IoT products.
Since our establishment in 1997, we have known how important it is to provide customers with reliable and immediate connectivity, which is why it is our original intention and focus to build an IoT platform and become a partner to implement IoT applications. NEC has adopted the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform for the system operating platform of the new “Narita Airport One ID” boarding solution, which uses face authentication technology provided by NEC.
This solution is an adaptation of “FAST TRAVEL,” making the process from arrival to boarding simple, easy to understand and smooth for passengers. It enables convenient and safe entry/exit procedures that allow people to pass various procedures such as baggage storage, security check and boarding gate without having to show a boarding pass and passport, as was required in the past, by registering a face photo at initial airport check-in procedures.
As a global leader in the IT and networking areas, NEC provides IT products and solutions for various companies and government offices, and in the past few years, it has also been focusing on the safety business, including biometric authentication technology.
In this instance, the focus on the development of systems is enabling coexistence of development and deployment with scalability capable of addressing sudden increases in the number of passengers during peak hours, flexible linkage with other leading edge systems and hardware, and excellent agility. Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform met their needs by providing a flexible and scalable enterprise-ready Kubernetes container platform, as the system development and operating platform.
This system, which is scheduled to be installed first at Narita International Airport's 1st and 2nd passenger terminals in the spring of 2020, and eventually at domestic and international airports around the world, is expected to improve the on-time rate and to ease congestion through shortening waiting time during boarding procedures. It is also anticipated that improved safety, due to improved accuracy of identity verification in various procedures, and automation of procedures will lead to labor and manpower savings.
The firm, which was looking to use open source securely in advanced technology areas, selected Red Hat, as it had a high appraisal of Red Hat’s strong track record of more than 1,300 instances of use of the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform globally, and its deep knowledge of container / Kubernetes technology and enterprise-grade support capabilities.

To build the first end-to-end fully virtualized cloud-native mobile network in the world, Rakuten Mobile adopted Red Hat open source technology, including the Red Hat OpenStack Platform. This will enable a low cost offering of a wide range of consumer and commercial services such as broadband, 4G / 5G wireless access and AR / VR.
The firm was looking to meet the requirements for the arrival of 5G technology and use software innovation to speed up the provision of mobile services to end users. InterGlobe Aviation Ltd (IndiGo Airline) IT Optimization, Agile Integration
InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, popularly known as IndiGo, is India’s largest passenger airline. The airline uses various Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) products specific to the airline industry, as well as for generic functions such as finance. Additionally, the company also has several self-developed applications for its specific requirements such as HR, crew training, catering menu, and more. IndiGo implemented Red Hat Fuse and Red Hat Enterprise Linux to integrate these disparate applications and siloed data. Red Hat Consulting also collaborated with IndiGo to help design the solution and provided hands-on expert support and training through the initial deployment. This resulted in improved business agility and speed to add new features, and reduced fuel costs.

POSCO ICTDigital Transformation
POSCO ICT is the IT and engineering services provider of POSCO, one of the world’s largest steel producers. To enable continued innovation and success for the next generation of POSCO’s business, POSCO ICT embarked on the Smart Factory project, with a goal of enabling the business to produce high-quality, high value-added products in a cost-effective manner. POSCO ICT deployed Red Hat Ansible Automation and Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform as the basis of its Smart Factory. Previously, a large amount of manpower and time were invested in implementing an infrastructure that enabled production-related big data analysis. However, by adopting Red Hat’s enterprise container and automation offerings, POSCO ICT established a foundation that could more quickly and easily implement analysis environments and expand them to various production sites. The resulting enhanced insights were quickly applied to analysis of POSCO’s production line, leading to marked improvements in the quality and efficiency of the production line.
POSCO ICT chose Red Hat as its technology partner not only for Red Hat Ansible Automation and Red Hat OpenShift but also for its consulting expertise. Red Hat Consulting helped POSCO ICT to identify the issues with regards to its system build and operations, and provided technical advice and support to solve them.
Working with Red Hat has enabled POSCO ICT to achieve multiple efficiencies including reductions in operating costs, efficiency gains and increased return on investment. POSCO ICT estimates that it will save 20% of its annual IT automation and management costs. In addition, implementing an organization-wide big data analytics enabled it to gain actionable insights that can help improve the quality of its products and in turn increase profitability.
Red Hat’s technical superiority and strong open source culture were key factors that contributed to our decision to work with them. The business value that we have received since working with Red Hat has been huge. For example, we have been able to achieve a 20% cost reduction in IT automation and management functions and faster project turnaround times. Shinhan Bank is one of the leading banks with the longest history in South Korea.. It has more than 900 domestic branches, and has been leading financial ICT industry technology changes through ATM, call center, PC banking and online banking. Shinhan Bank is expanding its overseas services to the rest of the globe through a network of more than 160 partners in 20 countries.
Shinhan Bank aims to continuously expand its services with local affiliates to expand its local services in the world. In order to expand its API-related services quickly and efficiently, the bank embarked on an initiative to build a large-scale, cloud-based front-end processing system. It also adopted DevOps processes to enable it to use open source and cloud-native service implementation technologies with strong security capabilities.
Shinhan Bank’s main driver for the project was to secure a microservice architecture and capacity to build container-based and cloud-native services as the existing services were built on a monolithic architecture. Shinhan Bank used Red Hat OpenShift to shorten the system development life cycle and gain standardized container technology and microservice development capabilities. OpenShift also provided Shinhan Bank with a microservice architecture that enabled it to use a global clustering OPC (one point copy) system to only run workloads that are relevant to each country’s needs, leading to accelerated services and lower operating costs. Additionally, the solution provides an on-ramp to hybrid cloud as part of its cloud strategy. This is key in providing the bank with the flexibility it requires to move workloads between environments - using between its private cloud for app development and testing, and the public cloud for production and services to its customers.

With origins tracing back to 1875, Heritage Bank is Australia’s largest customer-owned bank and is one of the longest running financial institutions in Australia. Founded in Toowoomba, Heritage Bank prides itself on its “People First” ethos, and is committed to improving an excellent customer experience.
Currently, Heritage Bank is in the midst of a digital transformation to better meet its goal of delivering great customer experiences every time. However, its monolithic 40-year-old core system resulted in siloed teams and limited the bank’s architectural vision. Its business model needed to change, and the bank believed it was necessary to take an outside-in approach when architecting, delivering and evolving a digital platform.
To address that, Heritage Bank engaged Red Hat Open Innovation Labs, and was able to apply three strategies - microservices, APIs and containers - to create highly configurable architecture, to help Heritage Bank respond more quickly to market demands. The immersive nature of the Red Hat Open Innovation Labs experience also resulted in the bank having empowered, multi-disciplinary teams to better support the business.

OptusDigital transformation, Modern Application Development
Optus serves content and telecommunications capabilities to more than 10 million Australian mobile subscribers and provides enterprise services to many of Australia’s small, medium and large businesses.
As part of its 2020 CX Vision, Optus is aiming to transform customer experience by delivering exceptional value and digital experiences for customers.
To drive customer experience improvements, Optus developed a Cloud Core Contact Centre (C4), a cloud-native platform that allows microservices to be quickly developed and deployed in a DevOps environment with strong security capabilities. C4 breaks down complex monolith systems into smaller services, with each performing a precise functionality. Since a single microservice can be used in various use cases to perform the same function, Optus’ agile teams can prevent repeated efforts, resulting in faster iteration of new customer care functionalities. Optus also managed to adopt DevOps practices with C4. Featuring CI/CD pipelines with embedded security compliance checks, C4 enables the telco to modify architectures and release software without impacting the stability of operations or compromising the security of customer sensitive information.
With all these capabilities, Optus can rapidly develop and integrate new service technology functions – such as voice notes and intelligent routing – across its voice and messaging channels to deliver better customer experience. For instance, the Red Hat OpenShift-backed C4 supports the real-time transcription of customer calls and automation of categorisation of the transcript (also known as voice notes). These moves aim to help Optus’ contact centre agents capture more information from customer calls and reduce the time needed to summarise those calls. C4 also enables Optus’ service operations team to personalise the routing experience for customers who call. By doing so, Optus can help customers more effectively with minimal customer input, which could result in an enhanced customer experience.

Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited (OCBC Bank)Digital transformation, Modern Application Development
As part of its digital strategy, OCBC Bank modernized its technology architecture to enable it to deliver superior customer experience, deepen relationships and to grow its franchise. To realize this goal, OCBC deployed solutions, including wealth management applications, built on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform. With this platform, OCBC Bank can deliver new digital capabilities with scale and agility across the Group’s business lines and subsidiaries in the region. The platform has enabled the Bank to increase reusability, lower overall cost of investment and increase development efficiency.
We have made very good progress in transforming our technology architecture to improve agility and speed in deploying new business capabilities. The rise of active mobile consumers and digital businesses in Asia Pacific has driven demand for reliable and fast internet connectivity. To address this demand, Singtel deployed Red Hat Ansible Automation.
With Red Hat Ansible Automation, Singtel can use playbooks for configuration management and to automate time-consuming, repetitive tasks such as diagnostics and report generation. This not only helps ensure better stability and network uptime, but also frees up employees from routine work to focus on revenue-generating tasks.
Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad (Alliance Bank)Digital Transformation, Agile Integration
As part of its digital transformation, Alliance Bank deployed the agile Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform to help expedite the roll-out of its Branch-in-Tablet initiative to cut the projected timeline from 18 months, to as little as 4 months for the first version of the bank account opening process working prototype. This solution enables the bank’s customers to open a banking account and activate their debit card, Internet, and mobile banking services in as little as 15 minutes. Today, all Alliance Bank branches nationwide are equipped with this efficient tablet solution.
Alliance Bank’s Branch-in-a-Tablet initiative will soon be extended to include other banking products and solutions. The meaningful collaboration with Red Hat helps Alliance Bank fulfil its brand promise to its customers: delivering fast, simple, and responsive solutions that are aligned to their needs.

Hong Leong Bank Berhad (HLB)Digital Transformation, IT Optimization
HLB is one of Malaysia’s leading financial services institutions providing regional services of wide ranging and innovative financial solutions to countries which include Singapore, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Vietnam and China. These services are delivered through traditional means and comprehensive digital channels – online and mobile banking, as well as a digital branch concept designed to provide complete customer satisfaction with a simple, efficient and seamless experience aided by technology.
With the rapidly-changing financial landscape, coupled with fast-paced technological changes, staying attuned to customers’ expectations and aspirations are key to HLB’s ongoing efforts to develop capabilities, banking products and services that are centred on clients’ needs.
To this end, HLB deployed Red Hat solutions to enhance its application development capabilities while increasing security capabilities and maintaining its existing IT investments and control of its assets. With Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, and its ability to enable an automated container management process that supports provisioning, deployment, and scaling of containers across multiple hosts/nodes, as well as automatic health checks to enable high availability in expected workloads, the bank can take an innovative approach in developing new services and releasing them to the market at a faster rate.
Red Hat OpenShift also offers an open source architecture that enables applications to run across physical, virtual, public, private, or hybrid cloud infrastructure. This has enabled the bank to adopt an agile and human-centric design methodology that helped them to considerably enhance customer experience through continual improvements and adjustments to the UI/UX. The open source architecture also enabled it to integrate its offerings with WeChat Pay, enabling WeChat users to more easily make payments when visiting Malaysia. Collectively, based on its estimates, the new capabilities helped HLB reduce in-house app development and go-to-market time by 40 to 60%, depending on complexity, and lower the cost to market by 40 to 60%.
HLB’s journey to digitize began not with the technology, but a cultural shift driven by digital-first values and guiding principles. By deploying Red Hat’s solutions which are open yet enterprise-grade, we have managed to attain rapid development capabilities and maintain the journey of ‘fail fast, fail cheaply, quick to market, and build your own’. This in turn helped to lower our capital expenditure by at least 40% over traditional bought and deployed solutions, and enabled us to deliver more custom tailored digital services to our internal and external stakeholders – which are either developed in-house or through collaboration with third-parties and can help improve our customers’ lives – at a sustainable cost.
PT Bank Central Asia (Tbk)Agile integration

To help boost financial inclusion in the country, PT Bank Central Asia (BCA) sought to become more agile, developing and deploying services in a more responsive manner. This motivated them to move away from its legacy enterprise application integration platform into one that offered API-based integration and enable greater agility.

PT Telekomunikasi SelularDigital transformation
Telkomsel, the largest cellular operator in Indonesia, serves around 168 million customers today and brings telecommunications service access across the country. Being the first to commercially launch 4G LTE mobile services in Indonesia, the company prides itself on consistent innovation to expand its digital business, including digital lifestyle, mobile financial services, digital advertising, Big Data, and Internet of Things (IoT).
Established in 1995, Telkomsel’s legacy systems hindered it from moving faster to accommodate business and customer needs as its business grew. To counter this and increased competition, Telkomsel set out a strategic business direction in 2017 to undergo digital transformation and stay ahead of the curve.
To address the challenge of monolithic and siloed systems, duplicate functions and a complex integration process which required heavy investments of resources just to keep the lights on, the telco embarked on a Digital Core platform and migrated to cloud-native applications using containers and microservices with Red Hat OpenShift, the industry’s most comprehensive enterprise Kubernetes platform, to eliminate duplicate services and accelerate speed to market. API-based services also simplified the integration with third-party partners and enabled it to pilot three new products in its Digital Core project: a browse and purchase product, customer information service and a mobile wallet service.
Since working with Red Hat, Telkomsel has been able to improve its agility, thereby achieving a three-fold improvement in its time to market for delivering new products. Automating its processes has also freed up resources to innovate and improve its customer service levels.
Intense industry competition back in 2017 put us in a pivotal moment to look into transforming our business and implementing a strategic digital transformation plan to stay in the frontline of innovation. This has not only helped us achieve and maintain the highest standard in telecommunications service, but also opened up new growth opportunities. Red Hat OpenShift was instrumental to the success of the Digital Core project, which has transformed our IT operations fundamentally, more importantly, it has brought positive business impact from improving customer experience to drive innovation and business growth.
Australia and New Zealand Banking Group LimitedModern Application Development, Digital Transformation
ANZ Bank (ANZ) is one of the five largest listed companies in Australia by market capitalization and a leading bank in New Zealand, serving both consumers and businesses in the region. In 2017, ANZ needed to increase the speed of its software release cycle after the work in their API platform had grown significantly during the previous year. To enable a continuous integration and continuous delivery process, ANZ migrated to a solution based on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Gluster Storage, Red Hat Ansible Tower, and Red Hat Satellite.
The project began in phases in 2017, with migration of more than 25 services into containers within nine months. Using Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, ANZ reports it reduced deployment time from hours to minutes, allowed development teams to deploy their own code into production, automated configuration, and enabled zero downtime deployments. The team also engaged Red Hat Consulting to help upskill the team and migrate the solution.
Since its initial rollout, ANZ added a Blue-Green deployment capability - a methodology that creates two identical production environments which enable upgrades to be made in the parallel environment and facilitate rollbacks to the old environment should a problem surface - in a matter of weeks. This created a continuous integration (CI) service that superseded its old CI processes.

New Zealand Customs ServiceEnterprise Integration, Digital Transformation

As part of this role, NZ Customs installed eGates (formerly SmartGates) - an automated self-service passport check system that provides faster border clearance. Between 20,000 and 25,000 passengers use the eGates daily, with international visitor arrivals forecasted to increase by 4.8 percent per annum over the next five years. To enable smoother processing at the borders and to avoid increasing staff workload, NZ Customs embarked on an eGate upgrade project.
With the help of SECTION6, an open source enterprise solutions consultancy and a Red Hat partner, NZ Customs Service developed a solution architecture based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux,Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (JBoss EAP), Red Hat Fuse and Red Hat AMQ. With this new Red Hat-based platform, NZ Customs Service can more rapidly deliver modern applications and services, helping to modernise its entire portfolio of applications. Using open source technologies also became a catalyst for innovation at NZ Customs, helping to increase productivity and provide better service quality.
The upgraded eGate solution improved processing for both frontline staff and travelers. Based on its internal calculations, NZ Customs was able to increase the number of passengers processed by the modernized eGates, reduce manual processing, and reduce the average time required to process each passenger through the eGates.
New Zealand Customs is delighted to receive this award. Our upgraded eGate border processing solution has enabled faster and more reliable processing of passengers at the border which has improved their traveling experience and has allowed us to better cope with an increasing traveler population. The success of the project has clearly demonstrated the value that can be realized in a public service setting by working in an agile, collaborative way. As a result, agile and DevOps practices are being adopted to help accelerate other important pieces of work at New Zealand Customs. The confidence and trust that we have received from our key technology and business stakeholders would not have been possible without the support of SECTION6 and Red Hat.
