Red Hat Expands its Enterprise Linux Family with New Offerings for Mid-Tier Servers and Workstations

Red Hat announces the immediate availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES and Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS

"Manageability and standards are critical in commercial computing environments," said Brian Stevens, vice president of Operating System Engineering at Red Hat. "With the introduction of Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES and WS, organizations are able to seamlessly deploy reliable, high value Linux solutions in all aspects of IT infrastructure."

Available since May, 2002, Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (originally called Red Hat Linux Advanced Server) has established the standard for commercial Linux deployments. It has introduced new levels of availability and performance on Intel-based servers and has gained broad support from hardware vendors, software vendors and customers. Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS is designed to be the optimum solution for mission-critical departmental and datacenter server deployments.

Available now, Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES provides a complete operating system for a wide range of entry-level and departmental server applications. It is ideally suited for application-, network-, file-, print-, mail-, and Web-serving, as well as for running custom or packaged business applications.

Also available now, Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS is Red Hat's first enterprise-class engineering desktop/workstation. Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS is ideal for software development, electronic design and compute intensive work such as in Oil & Gas and other engineering applications. Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS is fully compatible with other members of Red Hat's Enterprise family of products.

"As an electronic design leader, Cadence provides customers with the best solutions on the enterprise-class Linux operating system," said Lavi Lev, executive vice president and general manager of the IC Solutions Business at Cadence. "We believe that Linux platforms provide choice, competitive price and performance advantages for our comprehensive electronic design software solutions. In addition, enterprise-class operating systems are expected to offer the multi-year stability and support necessary to meet the challenges faced by the electronic design community. Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS will be a key component of that solution on Linux."

"The entire suite of Borland solutions for the software application development lifecycle helps organizations to deliver better software faster," said Frank Slootman, senior vice president of software products for Borland Software Corporation. "The Red Hat enterprise Linux strategy, including WS, is a key part of our focus on supporting our products across every major platform."
