Red Hat, a leading developer and provider of Linux-based operating system solutions, has introduced the official Red Hat Certified Engineer qualification (RHCE) for technical professionals in the UK. The RHCE Rapid Track Certification Programme is a fast track certification programme for experienced Unix and Linux technical professionals wishing to obtain Red Hat Certified Engineer status.

The Red Hat Certified Engineer course is a five-day training and certification course designed to provide intensive hands-on training and certification on Red Hat Linux. The course covers Red Hat Linux installation, basic configuration and administration, advanced installation and configuration, X Windowing, standard networking services and systems administration and security. The RHCE Certification Exam is a practical test of a candidate's ability to implement Red Hat Linux in an operational environment.
Red Hat is offering the five-day course including the one day exam between October and December 1999 at a cost of £1,599 plus VAT at a location near London Heathrow. Experienced Linux programmers wishing to attempt theofficial Red Hat Certified Engineer certification exam without undertaking the course can sit the exam only at a cost of £485 plus VAT.
