(NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that it has opened registration to an early access program for JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6, which is planned to be released for general availability at the beginning of next year. The release of JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6 reflects the culmination of Red Hat's efforts to facilitate the adoption of Java Enterprise Edition (EE) 6 technologies, enable a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)-ready platform and simplify the management of application servers regardless of where they are deployed.

The major release goals of JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6 are based upon the following key factors, each of which has seen major progress and usage across multiple JBoss Community projects during the last 12 months:
- Implement Java EE 6 technologies — Java EE 6 is a major step forward in making Java development more flexible and agile, and JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6 and its supporting open source projects reflect these enhanced capabilities. Red Hat led the development of key new features within Java EE 6, including Contexts and Dependency Injection (CDI), which makes Java EE a much more flexible framework for developers.
- Enable PaaS-ready platform and flexible on-premise deployment — As the runtime engine for Red Hat's PaaS offerings, JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6 is designed to be deployed within PaaS environments. With its new architecture, JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6 will make it easier than ever to tune and size the application server to fit the workload, whether in a physical, virtualized or cloud deployment.
- Provide major advancements to operations and management capabilities — For its next-generation platform, Red Hat is making major strides in the balancing act of providing a very lightweight, but high-performance Java EE platform with rock-solid enterprise management capabilities, without the bloat of traditional Java EE platforms. JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6 introduces many new capabilities such as a powerful task-based management framework that is designed to provide the foundation for large-scale automation for public and private cloud deployments, and significant reduction in memory consumption, startup and deployment times to support many new small footprint deployments.

JBoss Enterprise Application Platform presents Red Hat's efforts as a leader in Java. Through its history, Red Hat has worked to make Java more relevant to developers and organizations and to help Java EE evolve from a rigid, monolithic platform, to a highly productive, lightweight, modular application fabric for cloud and on-premise deployments. In addition to its role on the Java Community Process (JCP) Executive Committee, Red Hat has been a Java Specification Leader or Expert Working Group member for more than 35 key Java Specification Requests (JSRs).
In April, Red Hat announced its continued vision for the evolution of Java through the submission of three new specification proposals and collaboration in at least four other specifications for the upcoming Java EE7 specification (JSR 342).
