Pursuing leadership positions in electrification, autonomous vehicles and mobility solutions with more than 191,000 employees globally, Ford Motor Company has one of North America’s most sophisticated IT infrastructures. Additionally, the company’s IT experts are known in multiple technology circles across the open source community as thought leaders.  Red Hat is honored to be recognized by this award, which is voted on by Ford’s elite technical specialists.

Over the past year, Ford has been working with Red Hat to move complex, stateful applications to more elastic, cloud-based deployment patterns. Using Red Hat OpenShift 4 running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux CoreOS with Kubernetes Operators automation has enabled Ford to attach its solution to high-performing bare metal deployments and geographically distant datacenters or public clouds. With this mixture of on-premise, virtual and cloud-based deployments Ford has been able to deliver a more agile and infrastructure-agnostic approach for application services that can be the hardest to transform.

Red Hat OpenShift is the industry’s most comprehensive enterprise Kubernetes platform with full-stack automated operations to manage hybrid cloud and multicloud deployments, optimized for developer productivity and frictionless innovation. OpenShift is the trusted enterprise Kubernetes platform, delivering a more secure, supported Kubernetes platform guided by deep open source expertise. It helps teams have more time and freedom to innovate across hybrid and multicloud environments by delivering automated lifecycle management for containers at each layer down to Linux and decoupling workloads from infrastructure. With OpenShift, developers are empowered to innovate and enhance business value through cloud-native applications.

Chris Wright, senior vice president and chief technology officer (CTO) at Red Hat, accepted the award presented by Jeff Lemmer, chief information officer at Ford on Dec. 6, 2019.
