Key Lessons from VodafoneZiggo's 5G Project: Avoiding Pitfalls and Streamlining Success. With the move from VMWare & Openstack towards the Openshift platform, VodafoneZiggo encountered multiple challenges. But together with HCS Company, they succeeded in installing a platform that allows for 7 million critical connections. During this presentation they share the key lessons of a disconnected bare-metal Openshift platform.

Convergent development of open source edge cyberinfrastructure and medical analysis software will increase equitable access to research outcomes. Across global deployments, the ChRIS project takes up various roles from supporting translational imaging research at Boston’s leading hospitals to enabling cost-effective and advanced analytics, including AI workflows, in under-resourced communities. The portability, pervasive open source underpinnings, native integration with OpenShift, and ease of distribution of ChRIS deployments is a significant driver.

Agile software development has been successfully implemented in a wide variety of areas for years. The transformation towards agile is often driven forward by young colleagues for whom dealing with cloud, innovation and agility is a matter of course.But if we look at particularly protected areas, the availability of such employees tends to decrease. Not every developer is willing or able to accept the appropriate security check, approval and any associated restrictions. Likewise, the need for innovation and transformation in sensitive areas such as security, sovereign tasks, energy supply and defense is immense. The concept works according to the ""Dev Low / Run High"" principle - which means nothing other than that software is developed in areas with little or no regulation and then handed over to a secure operations team for operation in isolated areas. This sounds obvious at first, but the devil is in the detail. The advantage of ""DEV Low"" is the easy use of agile tools and innovation based on public cloud infrastructures. This speeds up development while reducing costs. Release cycles are greatly reduced, which can increase the quality and innovation of the entire environment. We resolve this balancing act with our concept of the ""Secure Software Factory".

Image mode for Red Hat Enterprise Linux is a new deployment method that takes a container-native approach to deliver the OS from a container image. Image mode builds on the success of open source projects such as bootc, which manages the installation and updating of hosts in any part of the hybrid cloud, to create a deployment model that fits seamlessly into container-native workflows[, reduces complexity and increases security and consistency. During the session, we will introduce the core concepts and building blocks of RHEL Image mode and use cases, and you will see it in action.
