Using AI throughout the interview process with Red Hat
During our hiring process, we want to get to know the real you—and gain a clear picture of your skills, experience, and how you think.
However, we also understand that AI is becoming a natural part of how we work, helping to boost efficiency and support productivity. Within Red Hat, we encourage the thoughtful and ethical use of AI to simplify workflows, reduce complexity, and enable our teams to focus on higher-impact work.
Our approach to using AI in the hiring of new candidates is about finding the right balance and maintaining a fair, consistent process. As part of our commitment to transparency, we’d like to share guidance on how candidates may use AI during interviews, as well as how Red Hat uses AI throughout the hiring process.
Encouraged / Acceptable
Application Stage
Using AI tools to help refine and personalize your CV or cover letter. However, we encourage you to write the first draft yourself to ensure it accurately reflects your skills and experience.
Interview Preparation
Using AI tools for interview preparation, research, or mock interviews.
Business or panel interviews
We encourage and accept only your own, unassisted skills and real-time responses during this stage of the interview. To ensure this, no AI tools or solutions are considered acceptable for use during this stage.
Technical interviews
Some teams allow the use of AI-assisted tooling for technical interviews.
Check with your interviewer on whether AI-assisted tooling is allowed. If you’re using an AI-assisted tool during a technical interview (e.g., a coding environment with AI support like GitHub Copilot), please disclose it to your interviewer upfront, including the tool used and how it’s assisting.
Not Allowed / Not Acceptable
Application Stage
Relying entirely on AI to generate content for application materials.
Interview Preparation
Relying solely on AI-generated scripts for your answers when preparing for a live interview.
Business or panel interviews
Please do not use AI tools or solutions of any kind during business or panel interviews. The purpose of these interviews is to help us assess your communication, engagement, and work skills in real time.
Technical interviews
Some teams allow the use of AI-assisted tooling for technical interviews.
Using AI-assisted tooling without confirming whether its use is permitted.
We also want to be transparent about where Red Hat uses AI during the hiring process.
To streamline and simplify the hiring process, we use an automated scheduling tool to help you book interview slots at your convenience. This tool is powered by artificial intelligence and is only used to handle calendar availability and send interview reminders.
- AI is not used to make decisions on your application, interview performance, or responses.
- All interviews are conducted and evaluated by real people (who are excited to get to know you!)
If you have questions on data privacy, review Red Hat’s candidate privacy notice.
We will regularly review and update this guidance to reflect evolving AI capabilities.
