The premier open source technology conference, Red Hat Summit, is only days away at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, May 2-4, and many attendees are beginning to fill their Summit calendar. Some of the content we’re most excited about this year is from our customers from across the globe. Our customers are a constant source of inspiration, and the Red Hat Summit 2017 agenda brings that to life in a big way.
From cloud and hybrid IT, to Linux containers, business automation, application development, infrastructure, DevOps, security, the Internet of Things (IoT) and more, at Red Hat Summit you can hear firsthand how others are using technology to innovate and create modern and agile technology platforms, and how Red Hat enables them to do it.
One of the hottest topics in enterprise technology is Linux containers. Between Red Hat Summit keynotes and sessions at both Red Hat Summit and the OpenShift Commons Gathering, we’ll have more than 25 customers talking about how they are collaborating with Red Hat and using Red Hat OpenShift, Linux containers and Kubernetes - many in production for mission-critical apps. There will also be seven customers on the main stage who’ll be speaking about how OpenShift and DevOps come together to help propel next-generation apps in their organizations including Barclays, Optum, and KeyBank.
Other customers who will be featured during keynote sessions include Sprint, Macquarie Bank, Deutsche Bank, Eastern Carolina University, GovTech, Government of British Columbia, Government of the State of Jalisco, and Easier AG, speaking on topics such as OpenStack and NFV, and innovation in government.
But we aren’t only excited about those sessions. With more than 60 customers featured at Red Hat Summit 2017, here are a few highlights:
-
Allianz AMOS: The insurance giant will share the path they took to migrate the middleware platform for its 1,000 business applications to Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP). The session will describe the approach and designs used to modernize the middleware platform with Red Hat technology, as well as how the team worked with Red Hat Consulting and embraced DevOps to create a successful process for deploying and executing the applications.
-
Best Buy: This session will detail the best practices Best Buy learned when implementing Ansible by Red Hat at scale. Attendees will learn how Best Buy used Ansible to change the way they handled IT integrations, which enabled development teams through full stack automation, and standardized deployments.
-
Capital One: Capital One uses Red Hat JBoss BPM Suite to automate many of their business processes, and at Red Hat Summit they’ll demo how BPM Suite can be used in a Docker container and managed within Amazon ECS to implement a reactive architecture with microservices. Through this talk, attendees will learn how this approach enables a business process to be lightweight, decoupled, and easy to change.
-
Cox Automotive (Autotrader): Cox Automotive uses Red Hat products to automate, architect, and manage its big data infrastructure, saving time and resources. Cox Automotive will show a live demo of its infrastructure risk management process and talk about how they created a successful IT environment using Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Virtualization, Red Hat Gluster Storage, Red Hat Satellite, Ansible by Red Hat, and Red Hat Insights.
-
Disney Studios and Pixar: The teams at Disney and Pixar will share how they are offering an automated experience for developers and IT services. Attendees will hear how Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform assisted the technology teams to deliver an on-demand container platform that exposed developers to up to date content, pipeline automation, storage, and deployment patterns for microservices and tiered applications.
-
Monash University: Attendees will learn about how Monash University deployed Red Hat Ceph Storage to build the southern hemisphere's largest (known) Ceph cluster. The discussion will cover the high-level business and strategic challenges that led to the solution and discuss how they approached the challenges of architecting, deploying, and operating a cluster of this size. The session will touch on the best practices and lessons learned during Monash’s deployment, and key use-cases and scientific data workflows that this infrastructure supports.
-
Sky Italia: The broadcasting company used Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform to build a fast and scalable architecture for its video encoding. During this session attendees will learn about the use case for delivering video encoding on top of Red Hat OpenShift; how the architecture was designed and built using Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and Red Hat Gluster Storage; main challenges faced during the project and how each was addressed; and future plans for a hybrid model with public cloud scalability.
-
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill: The university is changing its IT landscape by implementing a private cloud infrastructure, using Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform as the foundation This session will explore UNC’s business case for OpenShift, their migration from a host-based infrastructure to a container-first model, the migration of core J2EE services to Red Hat JBoss EAP, and how this has helped campus innovation by providing a hosting environment for faculty, staff, and students.
-
Volvo Cars: Volvo embarked on a transformation journey to embrace containers and public cloud computing to improve infrastructure agility using Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and Ansible Tower by Red Hat on Microsoft Azure. The session will delve into how the need for custom servers, manual tasks, lack of isolation, and multiple datacenters made application deployments difficult and required long maintenance windows, and how Red Hat was the solution.
-
Verizon: During this session, attendees will learn about Verizon’s journey to containerize one of its most challenging applications using Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform. Attendees will get to see the results of a two-month long proof-of-concept, including successes, misses, and a roadmap for application modernization. During the discussion, Verizon will share details on how the journey took place, the pitfalls, and the lessons learned of modernizing complete application portfolios.
