Communities flourish in technical advancements that benefit so many. Communities also sadly grieve together over the abrupt passing of a truly inspired friend and leader. With heavy hearts, the Red Hat team extends sincere condolences to the family of Ian Murdock and broader open source community that he so profoundly inspired.
Ian was a true pioneer of Linux distributions as founder of the Debian project. In those early formative days, he was instrumental in making Linux approachable and useful for people around the world. Ian carried that same drive, innovative spirit and commitment throughout the years into recent advancements in container technology. His passion touched users, developers and a broad diversity of contributors to share in his personal mission.
Ian will be sadly missed by the community, who will continue carrying his torch.
