I'm happy to share the news that Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform is a finalist in the 2017 Cloud Awards, contending for the title of “Best Platform-as-a-Service / Cloud Middleware.” We are honored to have made it this far in the selection process and look forward to the announcement of the overall winner later this month.

Thinking back over what we have accomplished during the past year, I am amazed at how far we have come. Just six months ago, we launched one of our biggest and most ambitious platform updates with the release of JBoss EAP 7 as a foundation for hybrid cloud applications. Today, JBoss EAP is the leading open source Java EE 7-compliant application server. We optimized the platform for cloud environments – particularly Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, which itself is a 2013 Cloud Awards winner – to give Java software developers an on-ramp to cloud-native computing, microservices architectures, containers, and more, while enabling them to continue using and extending their existing application infrastructure investments.

According to TechValidate research commissioned by Red Hat in 2016, the top challenges facing many IT departments today include cost and effort to maintain application infrastructure, and the pressure to improve speed-to-market and developer productivity. To address these challenges, organizations are prioritizing their ability to deliver business value and innovation to market faster than their competition by accelerating development and moving applications to the cloud – and many are turning to JBoss EAP to anchor these efforts.

Industry analyst firm IDC interviewed Red Hat customers using JBoss EAP to standardize and improve their application development efforts. The customers praised JBoss EAP for providing a cost-effective solution that enables their standardization efforts and delivers value and savings over legacy, proprietary solutions. The 2015 IDC study, commissioned by Red Hat, found that these organizations achieved an average 509 percent return on investment over three years, while developing 70 percent more applications per year with 35.5 percent fewer developer hours per application as a result of standardizing on JBoss EAP.

The numbers are phenomenal, and speak to the positive impact that JBoss EAP can have on customers' businesses. Results like these, and the fact that 100 percent of respondents to the TechValidate research said they are satisfied with JBoss EAP, help to affirm the progress we have made – and the work we are doing  to keep that progress going – with JBoss EAP. I am proud of the hard work we have put in to get to this point, and again, we are honored to be recognized for it.
