Red Hat Summit: Connect

Health & safety guidelines

Jump to section

All attendees of Red Hat® Summit: Connect 2021 events will be required to show proof of full vaccination and will be required to wear masks onsite. At this time, Red Hat will consider attendees to be "fully vaccinated" when they meet one of the following criteria:

  • Two weeks after receiving a single dose of a one-dose vaccine (e.g., Johnson & Johnson/Janssen); or
  • Two weeks after receiving the second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine (e.g., Pfizer, Moderna, or AstraZeneca).

More guidance will follow regarding booster shots and vaccination status as Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations become available.

If you are unable to join us in person, you can still visit the Red Hat Summit 2021 Virtual Experience to view Red Hat Summit content on demand. We hope to see you at a Red Hat event in the future, and if you have any questions in the meantime, please reach out to rh-summit-connect@itagroup.com.

Health & safety FAQs

Please note that this list of questions and answers and all protocols are subject to change as the fluid COVID-19 situation changes.

Due to the evolving risks surrounding the COVID-19 Delta variant, Red Hat has made some changes to our requirements at events to help ensure our attendees and staff are as safe as possible. Even though there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution, we are hard at work creating policies that are intended to keep you as safe as possible, while still being able to come to our events. We will continue to alert you of COVID-19 protocol updates as policies rapidly adapt.

For all Red Hat Summit: Connect events, Red Hat will require all of our attendees in the United States and Canada to be fully vaccinated. We will also require all attendees to wear masks.

Before attending Red Hat Summit: Connect 2021, all individuals are encouraged to assess themselves on the following statements:

  • I have not had a COVID-19 diagnosis and, to the best of my knowledge, I have not been exposed to COVID-19 in the past 14 days.
  • I have not experienced the onset of any one of the primary symptoms of COVID-19 in the past 14 days.
  • If I experience any symptoms associated with COVID-19 during Red Hat Summit: Connect, I will immediately seek out appropriate medical care.
  • I will respect others’ comfort levels with respect to physical contact (e.g., handshakes).

Why are you requiring masks and vaccines?

In order to best help protect everybody’s health, we have asked that all attendees wear a mask and be vaccinated. We want to protect people as best we can based on the data we have.

Is requiring a vaccination legal?

Yes, requiring vaccination does not violate HIPAA or discriminatory regulations.

What does fully vaccinated mean?

At this time, Red Hat will consider attendees to be "fully vaccinated" when they meet one of the following criteria:

  • Two weeks after receiving a single dose of a one-dose vaccine (e.g., Johnson & Johnson/Janssen); or
  • Two weeks after receiving the second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine (e.g., Pfizer, Moderna, or AstraZeneca).

More guidance will follow regarding booster shots and vaccination status as CDC recommendations become available.

What constitutes and what can I show as proof of vaccination?

Proof of vaccination may include:

  • CDC vaccination card
  • Photo of CDC vaccination card
  • Your state-approved vaccination proof digital solution app
  • Your Digital Vaccine Card in the CLEAR app

Are you requiring testing?

No, we are not requiring testing. We can refer you to the nearest testing facility should you need or choose to be tested, and we will have a small supply of CDC-approved self-test kits available at certain events.

I already had COVID-19 and have antibodies. Do I still need to get a vaccine?

Yes, we will still require proof of vaccine. The CDC recommends that people who have already had COVID-19 get a COVID-19 vaccine because research has not yet shown how long an individual is protected from getting COVID-19 after recovering, and vaccination provides enhanced protection even if you have already had COVID-19.

I have a medical or religious reason for not getting vaccinated and want to attend an event. What should I do?

Please contact us at rh-summit-connect@itagroup.com.

How will Red Hat associates and attendees be checked for proof of vaccination at proprietary events in the United States and Canada?

Event participants will be required to provide proof of vaccination onsite at registration through one of the following means:

  • CDC vaccination card
  • Photo of CDC vaccination card
  • Your state-approved vaccination proof digital solution app
  • Your Digital Vaccine Card in the CLEAR app

Do I have to pay to have my vaccination status validated?

No, vaccination verification is being provided to attendees, sponsors, and staff at no cost.

Will you be sharing my data with any local or federal government authorities?

Your information may be shared with necessary third parties to the extent required by local health requirements or regulations. However, as we are not providing COVID-19 testing or medical care through the event, we currently anticipate that it is unlikely that this will be necessary.

Will you provide masks or offer guidance on preferred types of masks and when they should be worn?

You will have to wear a mask the entire time at the event, except for in outdoor spaces and while consuming food and beverages indoors when socially distanced from other participants. Masks must be worn over the nose and mouth and must be made of a tight-knit, non-permeable material. KN95 or N95 masks are recommended and cloth masks are acceptable, but bandanas, scarfs, and gators are not permitted to be used as masks. Speakers will not be required to wear masks while presenting. Participants may provide their own masks for the event, though we will have masks available at event registration and information desks.

Will you be providing personal protective equipment (PPE) onsite?

You are welcome to provide your own mask, though we will have extras on site should anyone need them. We will also have hand sanitizer stations throughout the venue and event spaces.

Are we allowed to use a face shield instead of a mask?

No. Masks must be worn over the nose and mouth and must be made of a tight-knit, non-permeable material. KN95 or N95 masks are recommended and cloth masks are acceptable, but bandanas, scarfs, and gators are not permitted to be used as masks.

I have a medical reason for not wearing a mask and want to attend an event. What should I do?

Please contact us at rh-summit-connect@itagroup.com.

What if I have known exposure risk before coming?

If you have tested positive for COVID-19 or have reason to believe you currently have COVID-19, you should not attend Red Hat Summit: Connect. If you have reason to believe you have recently been exposed to COVID-19, please consult your physician to determine appropriate next steps.

Please contact us at rh-summit-connect@itagroup.com to cancel your registration.

What happens if you find out that someone who was at the event tested positive for COVID-19 after the event?

We ask that anyone who participates in person at the event and then tests positive for COVID-19 within 2 weeks after alerts us. We will keep all personal information (including name) confidential, but we will email all event participants to alert them that someone had tested positive after the event and to watch for symptoms.

What should I do if I notice someone at the event with visible symptoms?

We do not feel that having participants report attendees with visible symptoms (which could also be allergies, a cold, etc.) comports with the spirit of the event. We encourage our event participants to show their regard for the safety of others in the community by self-reporting any symptoms they themselves may have. The event staff will also be monitoring anything irregular onsite and handle the situation directly with participants as needed.

What if I have additional questions?

Red Hat will continue to update this website and provide additional communications to attendees, so please check back regularly. If you have additional questions, please contact us at rh-summit-connect@itagroup.com.
