Companies seeking to deploy that want to use cloud solutions have high requirements in terms of aspects such as performance, scalability, and greater IT security, requirements that Red Hat’s portfolio of enterprise-ready, open standards-based hybrid cloud solutions can help address. We are happy that eww ITandTEL chose to use Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and Red Hat CloudForms to implement and operate its PaaS environment, as the service provider has been a leader in driving customer-oriented IT developments along with Red Hat, and we look forward to advancing cloud services adoption together.

As a Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider, eww ITandTEL operates its own fiber optic network in Austria with linked international hubs in Germany, the Netherlands, Czech Republic and Slovakia. Beyond acting as a network operator, eww ITandTEL also offers further services ranging from the provision of e-mail services, data backup, security, and local network connections up to Internet provision as well as provision of cloud infrastructures.

As part of an effort to expand its services portfolio, eww ITandTEL sought to deploy a flexible PaaS platform to more rapidly provide these offerings to customers in a more streamlined, easier to consume manner. The company selected Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, which offers a reliable, open standards-based foundation for provisioning, managing, and scaling container applications in on-premise environments. eww ITandTEL used Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform as the basis for its new PaaS environment, which allows for quicker application development and deployment to supplement an existing Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) environment for customers.

eww ITandTEL also uses Red Hat CloudForms, an open hybrid cloud management platform, for the administration of its cloud landscape, which features both virtual machines and Linux containers. The Red Hat CloudForms management platform helps eww ITandTEL better handle automated deployment, capacity planning, resource optimization, and lifecycle management of cloud services. Along with Red Hat CloudForms, the service provider also uses Red Hat Satellite to provision and manage infrastructure created through Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform.

Red Hat Consulting supported eww ITandTEL with the planning, architecture design, and implementation of the new cloud solution. Red Hat defined a Standard Operating Environment (SOE) designed to both streamline the internal development and deployment and to unify the experience of customers and internal support staff.

eww ITandTEL’s services are certified in accordance with ISO/IEC 27001, a standard that fulfills the requirements for an information security management system (ISMS). In order to enable data protection in compliance with E.U. legislation, eww ITandTEL only stores data in its datacenters in Austria.

Beyond using Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and Red Hat CloudForms to set up the PaaS environment, eww ITandTEL also worked together with its partner Cloudwerkstatt to develop a self-service and administration portal. Based on this customer management portal and an integrated billing module, eww ITandTEL is able to process administrative and commercial tasks regarding its PaaS environment more quickly and efficiently. Customers are also able to get an up-to-date cost overview of their OpenShift environment.
