Weather information is being used in increasingly diverse ways across a broad spectrum of fields. For example, the agriculture, aviation and shipping industries use weather forecasts to optimize their operations, and retailers use data to predict the impact of weather patterns on product demand at their stores. Weather information is also used today for energy conservation and health management.

With interest in weather data on the rise, Weathernews has promoted the use of its APIs for collaboration among both internal and external stakeholders as they develop new applications and services. Looking to increase reliability and control over the provisioning and use of its APIs, as well as to better enable data restrictions, access control and license management, the company deployed 3scale API Management and standardized its application development with container technology.

By using a common API infrastructure for applications and services that take advantage of the weather data, Weathernews’ developers have been able to double their development productivity for building a system to display weather content to be provided clients. With its new API management capabilities in place, Weathernews is well-positioned to expand its business to other regions in the future.

Red Hat 3scale API Management is an award-winning platform designed to give control, visibility and flexibility to organizations seeking to create and deploy an API program. It includes features designed to address common business requirements for the provisioning of APIs, such as access limitation, security management, policy setting, and license management. It also features the ability to separately manage containerized gateways. Users can configure utilization, monetization and security policies from their APIs, either in the 3scale API Management console or automatically as part of a DevOps pipeline. In addition, 3scale API Management implements a key capability and part of Red Hat’s agile integration architecture approach. For the deployment, Weathernews appreciated the easier service development and operation thanks to smooth collaboration with the development platform, with architecture using the container technologies.
