In line with this year’s theme of “Explore what’s next,” the Red Hat Summit: Connect celebrates organizations’ ability to adapt to rapidly changing business environments, transform their business models and deliver better experiences to customers with open source. This year, the Red Hat APAC Innovation Awards recognizes the digital transformation success of 26 organizations in the region for their creative use of Red Hat solutions to stay ahead of industry trends and customer needs. Winners were chosen as best-in-class from a pool of nominations, and represent change-makers who are utilizing open source to enhance digitalization and efficiency.

In today’s fast changing business environment, agility and innovation are crucial for business success. The winners showcased the positive impact of their Red Hat deployments to support their business vision, workplace culture, industry and communities. They demonstrate how open source tools and culture have the power to accelerate business processes, enhance productivity, stimulate innovation and address future challenges.

The awards comprise five categories: Digital Transformation, Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure, Cloud-native Development, Automation and Resilience.

Categories: Digital Transformation and Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure

Winner: Integrated Health Information Systems (IHiS)

IHiS is a leading healthcare technology firm that integrates resilient, intelligent, secure and cost-effective technology with people and processes to make healthcare more efficient, inclusive, accessible and safer for patients. IHiS continually innovates to remain agile, ensuring that its business solutions are reliable in meeting the needs of users. This principle guided IHiS during the development of their new Common Consumer Digital Platform (CCDP), which provides relevant back-end services for Singapore residents, including patients of the three main public healthcare groups in Singapore (SingHealth, National University Health System and National Healthcare Group) in their efforts to digitize, engage, and share healthcare information easily with patients through customized apps that deliver regional health programmes.

IHiS used open source solution Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA) to build the CCDP on a commercial cloud environment, which reduced the platform’s operational costs and ensured its flexibility to handle fluctuating demands. With ROSA, IHiS has achieved time savings for their teams in the design, set up and operation of the microservices platform for all consumer facing channel applications. This frees up overall resources to develop innovative user applications as well as reduce security, operation and maintenance overheads, thereby paving the way for future application modernization efforts.

Category: Digital Transformation

Winner: Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC Bank)

OCBC Bank is the longest established Singapore bank, formed in 1932 from the merger of three local banks, the oldest of which was founded in 1912. It is now the second largest financial services group in Southeast Asia by assets and one of the world’s most highly-rated banks, with Aa1 by Moody’s and AA- by both Fitch and S&P. Recognised for its financial strength and stability, OCBC Bank is consistently ranked among the World’s Top 50 Safest Banks by Global Finance and has been named Best Managed Bank in Singapore by The Asian Banker.

The bank aims to be a leading data-driven organization in the region. Hence, it looked to enhance its business systems and customer experience through data science. OCBC Bank deployed Red Hat OpenShift as its cloud native platform to support the implementation of its Enterprise Data Science Platform (EDSP). OpenShift’s open standards and API support for third-party integration made it the ideal choice to help EDSP streamline the bank’s internal data science processes and make more business applications more intelligent. The EDSP allows OCBC to drive performance in the areas of credit analytics, anti-money laundering (AML), and customer chatbot optimization. EDSP also enhances credit risk processes with better insight into exposures and supports the Bank’s overall Risk Management strategy. AML teams can tap into data to detect and prevent money laundering activities.

The Digital Transformation category recognizes organizations that have successfully addressed IT challenges and delivered business value to effectively compete as a digital enterprise.

The Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure category showcases a collaborative public, private or open hybrid cloud deployment.
