Move your Red Hat subscriptions to the cloud to maximize value
Cloud adoption is the norm, but it is not always easy
Organizations are moving to the cloud to gain business and technical benefits. In fact, 87% of organizations have a multicloud strategy in place, and 50% of enterprise workloads run in a public cloud today.1 Even so, moving to the cloud is not always a straightforward path. Among other things, organizations cite assessing on-site versus cloud costs and understanding the implications of bring-your-own-license (BYOL) programs as cloud migration challenges.1
Red Hat helps you move to the cloud more easily and cost-effectively. With Red Hat® Cloud Access, your Red Hat Enterprise Linux® subscriptions are portable across on-site datacenter and cloud environments, so you can run your applications wherever it makes the most sense. And, because Red Hat Enterprise Linux delivers a consistent experience across footprints, you can extend your environment to the cloud using the same tools, processes, and skills that you use now.
What is Red Hat Cloud Access?
Red Hat Cloud Access is a program that lets you run eligible Red Hat product subscriptions on certified public cloud providers. It makes your subscriptions portable, so you may choose the best architecture and infrastructure for your needs—in your datacenter or on public clouds—and continue to access all of the benefits of your subscription. The terms of your subscription with Red Hat remain the same, but you gain more flexibility. You continue to pay Red Hat for subscriptions and pay your cloud provider for services used on their cloud infrastructure.
Benefits of Red Hat Cloud Access
Simply put, Red Hat Cloud Access extends all the benefits of your Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscription to the cloud of your choice, so you can take advantage of different cloud services, optimize cloud costs, or configure systems for resiliency and disaster recovery scenarios. Red Hat Cloud Access provides added benefits for both business and technical roles in your organization. Line of business managers and finance teams will appreciate streamlined costs and purchasing, while IT and cloud operations teams can take advantage of simplified management and application portability.
With Red Hat Cloud Access, your organization can:
- Optimize your costs. Use your existing subscriptions and discounts to deploy workloads in the cloud. There’s no need to procure different subscriptions for the cloud.
- Extend your IT operations. Continue to use the same management, security, and compliance tools and processes that you already use on site. IT staff can apply their current skills in the cloud.
- Access support resources. Continue to access the same Red Hat support resources like your representative, Customer Portal, knowledge base, videos, and reference architectures.
- Place applications where you want. Deploy your applications and workloads wherever it makes the most sense—on site or on your choice of more than 140 certified cloud providers. You can even move workloads back to your own datacenter—if needed—rapidly and without change.
How to use Red Hat Cloud Access
It is simple to get started with Red Hat Cloud Access. Simply go to console.redhat.com and link your Red Hat account with one or more of your cloud provider accounts. You only need to link each cloud account once.
Connecting your accounts gives you access to cloud-specific Red Hat golden images in addition to the ability to upload your own custom images for use in the cloud. Red Hat jointly develops golden images with each major cloud provider— including Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and IBM Cloud. These images are included with your subscription and kept up to date with the latest Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases. They are also instrumented so that you are not billed for the operating system by your cloud provider when you use them. Using these images can help you:
- Accelerate system deployment in cloud environments.
- Reduce errors due to manual processes and intervention.
- Automate and speed patch management and updates.
- Maintain system configurations more easily over time.
You can also import custom images built with the Red Hat image builder service, or your own tools, into your cloud account. The image builder service lets you create customized Red Hat Enterprise Linux images, save them as templates, and push them to multiple cloud provider inventories. By deploying your custom images through console.redhat.com, you won’t be charged for operating system use by your cloud provider.
Finally, if you are using AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud, all cloud instances deployed through console.redhat.com are automatically connected to Red Hat Insights and other valuable Red Hat services when you provision them.
