Red Hat annuncia l'avvio di un piattaforma di intermediazione per lo scambio/acquisto di applicazioni open source

Per contrastare la concorrenza di Oracle, Microsoft e Novell, Rad Hat ha annunciato all'ultima user group conference, il lancio di una piattaforma di intermediazione per favorisce l'incontro tra domanda e offerta di applicazioni opensource e service oriented.

Red Hat Exchange consente alle aziende di accedere a un ventaglio di 14 software opensource tra cui il database MySql Ab, lo strumento di content management Alfresco, i tool di collaboration Zimbra e SugarCrm in una versione compatibile con il sistema operativo Linux di Red Hat e il middleware JBoss.

La societa', tramite un abbonamento annuale, offrira' servizi di supporto che rappresentano la principale fonte di introiti del business Linux e i cui utili verranno suddivisi tra i vari app vendor. L'obbettivo della societa' e' di stimolare lo sviluppo, e quindi il fatturato, relativo alle applicazioni basate su Linux e trasportate come servizio.

Attraverso il messaging layer di Exchange, che non sara' disponibile fino all'anno prossimo, sara' possibile offrire una serie di prodotti neutrali per le applicazioni online o per quelle dedicate alle Soa, per movimentare lo scambio e la distribuzione del software inteso come un servizio di rete.

Inserendo nel novero dell'offerta Zimbra, Rad Hat ha sottolineato che la sua intenzione e' di tenersi fuori dal mercato delle applicazioni desktop anche se non ha rinunciato allo sviluppo di una versione desktop di Linux, che viene proposto per i modelli entry level ai mercati emergenti in team con Intel al costo di 175 dollari americani per i laptop e di 500 dollari per i piccoli server ma tra qualche gionro e' previsto il rilascio anche in Europa e Nord America.

Red Hat ha raggiunto i 42mila utenti nell'anno fiscale 2007, con un incremento di fatturato del 44%, pari a 401 milioni di dollari. Secondo gli esperti, la societa' dovra' estrarre dal suo cappello rosso qualche nuovo trucco per mantenere quel tasso di crescita.
