Features of Red Hat Learning Subscription

What is Red Hat Learning Subscription?

Answer: Red Hat Learning Subscription provides 1 year of access to Red Hat’s catalog of trusted technical training courses. It is available in 3 tiers—Course, Standard, and Premium—each offering different features to match individual and team learning goals and preferred training experience.

What is included in Red Hat Learning Subscription Course?

Answer: Red Hat Learning Subscription Course provides 1-year access to a single, self-paced Red Hat course, along with 1 enrollment in the live, virtual, instructor-led version of that same course. You can study at your own pace and reinforce your knowledge in an interactive, instructor-led session.

This tier also includes 1 certification exam (with the option to retake the exam if you do not pass), up to 100 hours of hands-on lab time, and access to expert chat for real-time guidance. Course tier is ideal for people who want to build expertise in a specific Red Hat technology.

What is included in Red Hat Learning Subscription Standard?

Answer: Red Hat Learning Subscription Standard offers access to the catalog of self-paced Red Hat Training courses and skills paths, as well as early access to in-development content. It includes up to 400 hours of hands-on lab time, 5 certification exams with 5 retakes, and access to exam-readiness resources to help you succeed.

Subscribers also benefit from expert extras (more details to come), Red Hat Training Bookshelf, and expert chat for additional learning support. Standard tier is best suited for IT professionals who prefer a flexible, self-directed learning experience across the Red Hat portfolio.

What is included in Red Hat Learning Subscription Premium?

Answer: Red Hat Learning Subscription Premium provides access to the Red Hat Training catalog, including both self-paced courses and live, virtual, instructor-led classes. Subscribers can attend up to 2 live class sessions for each course in the catalog, allowing for deeper reinforcement of key skills.

It also includes up to 400 hours of hands-on lab time, 5 certification exams with 5 retakes, early access to new content, skills paths, expert extras, Red Hat Training Bookshelf, exam-readiness resources, and expert chat for direct access to certified instructors.

Premium tier is ideal for professionals who want the structure and engagement of live classes combined with the flexibility of self-paced learning to build advanced skills.

What are expert extras?

Answer: Expert extras are on-demand videos that complement course content. They are offered as part of the Standard and Premium tiers of Red Hat Learning Subscription and are available anytime within the subscription term. In these short videos, Red Hat experts demonstrate innovative technologies and practices based on real-world use cases and scenarios.

What is early-access content?

Answer: The early-access content feature gives you access to course chapters and lab environments before they are released for public purchase. Early-access content is available in each subscription and allows you to provide feedback on the material. Once you complete the courses and labs, Red Hat adds them to the course catalog in the subscription.

What is Red Hat Training Bookshelf?

Answer: Red Hat Training Bookshelf is a centralized digital library that gives you flexible, on-demand access to e-books for Red Hat Training courses. It provides a convenient way to review course materials anytime, anywhere. It supports ongoing skill development with interactive tools and updated content, in 1 easy-to-access location.

Which courses are available in each subscription tier?

Answer: Each subscriber tier includes access to current self-paced training courses, along with any new courses that Red Hat Training releases during the subscription term.

Premium subscription includes live, virtual, instructor-led classes.

Course subscription includes access to a single, specific course offered in both learning modalities: self-paced or live, virtual, instructor-led formats.

Contact your regional training team for a list of specific courses available.

Will new or updated training courses be available during the term of my subscription?

Answer: Yes. As Red Hat releases new courses, we will make the content available to Red Hat Learning Subscription users.

How is lab usage calculated?

Answer: Red Hat Learning Subscription Premium and Standard users are limited to 400 hours of lab usage. Red Hat Learning Subscription Course users are limited to 100 hours per individual course.

Lab time is consumed when 1 or more lab machines in a lab environment are running. When all machines are stopped, the lab environment is no longer consuming lab time. Lab consumption is measured in hours, rounded up to the nearest whole hour and tracked in your dashboard.

These subscription-lab limits do not apply to live classes, and the live-class labs do not count against these limits.

What is expert chat and when is it available?

Answer: Expert chat allows Course, Standard, and Premium subscribers to have a 1-on-1 conversation with a certified instructor about topics covered in the course portfolio. Expert chat sessions are available in English Monday through Friday from 8–5 PM in your respective time zone. You are allowed 1 session per day, with a maximum duration of 30 minutes per session.

How can I track my team’s progress in Red Hat Learning Subscription?

Answer: You can access management-level reports, which include team-member course progress, lab hours used, exam status, hours spent in the Red Hat Learning Subscription platform, and last login date. Summaries of team accomplishments and PDF-exportable reports are also available.

When will videos be added to new or updated courses?

Answer: Red Hat adds videos within 90 days of the course’s release date.

Certifications and exam experiences

How many certification exams are available in a Red Hat Learning Subscription Course?

Answer: Course tier subscribers get 1 exam voucher and can retake the exam once if they do not pass. The exam must be completed during the duration of the subscription.

How many certification exams are available in Red Hat Learning Subscription Standard and Premium?

Answer: Standard and Premium tier subscribers can take up to 5 exams and retake each exam once if they do not pass. Exams must be completed during the duration of the subscription.

How do I take certification exams?

Answer: You can register for a certification exam through the subscription portal. Red Hat offers exams remotely and in person. Certification exams must be scheduled and completed within the 12-month subscription period. Find more information about taking remote certification exams on the remote exam FAQ page.

What is an exam experience and how does it count toward my exam attempts?

Answer: An exam experience is a hands-on exam that tests skills and knowledge of a subject area, but not to the same extent as a Red Hat certification. These exams assess progress toward proficiency for those on a path to certification. Exam experiences are available in the Course, Standard, and Premium tiers of Red Hat Learning Subscription. Exam experiences are subject to the same retake policies as certification exams (1 exam experience and 1 retake in Course tier and 5 exam experiences and 5 retakes in Red Hat Learning Subscription Standard and Red Hat Learning Subscription Premium tiers).

Are there any course completion requirements before attempting a certification exam?

Answer: No. You are not required to complete any number of or specific courses to be eligible for a certification exam.

Translated content in Red Hat Learning Subscription

Which languages are Red Hat Learning Subscription courses offered in?

Answer: Red Hat Learning Subscription content is available in English. Red Hat’s most popular courses are available in as many as 8 languages: International Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Italian, German, Simplified Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. Red Hat cannot guarantee a course will be published in another language besides English.

Do the videos in Red Hat courses have subtitles?

Answer: Videos include machine-translated subtitles for content in Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

Purchasing, payment, and terms

When is my subscription considered active?

Answer: At the time of purchase, you can choose a date on which to start the subscription (within 90 days of purchase). This delayed start is noted in the order itself. If no other date is specified, the order date becomes the start date.

Is there a discount if I purchase subscriptions for multiple users?

Answer: There are tiered discounts available for purchasing multiple subscriptions. Contact your Red Hat sales team or your Red Hat Training partner for more details.

Can multiple users share a Red Hat Learning Subscription?

Answer: No. Each subscription is assigned to 1 Red Hat account and can only be accessed by the owner of that account.

Can a Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA®) purchase Red Hat Learning Subscription at a discount? Are there discounts for other levels of Red Hat Certified Professionals (RHCPs)?

Answer: We offer current RHCAs a 50% discount. At this time, this discount is exclusive to RHCAs. We do not offer any discounts for other levels of Red Hat Certified Professionals.

Can I get access for more than 12 months?

Answer: Red Hat Learning Subscription is sold on a 12-month subscription basis. You can purchase consecutive subscriptions or renew subscriptions to fulfill multiple-year needs.

When I renew my subscription, does the new subscription start when the previous one ends?

Answer: By default, subscriptions begin on the date they were ordered or purchased, including renewed subscriptions. However, while ordering a subscription, you can select a date (within 90 days) on which you would like the subscription or renewal to begin. If you are renewing a subscription before it ends, we recommend using this feature during the renewal process.

Does course progress get carried over if I renew my subscription?

Answer: Training progress is attached to your Red Hat account, so if you maintain the account and renew the subscription, your progress will carry over to the next subscription period. Any unused resources—such as exams, lab hours, and e-book downloads—will not carry over into the renewal. Instead, your consumption limits will reset with your new subscription purchase.

How often do you offer each live, virtual, instructor-led course?

Answer: Red Hat offers each live, virtual, instructor-led course in English once per 12-month period.

What class schedules can Red Hat Learning Subscription Course subscribers view?

Answer: When scheduling a live, virtual, instructor-led class, Red Hat Learning Subscription Course subscribers only see the available class schedule for their specific tier. (Access to live class schedules is limited to the Course tier subscribers’ enrolled courses and does not include schedules for other Red Hat Learning Subscription offerings.)

When can Course and Red Hat Learning Subscription Premium tier subscribers enroll in a live class, and does it need to end before the subscription expires?

Answer: The class must both start and end within your Red Hat Learning Subscription period. You cannot enroll in a live class that finishes after your subscription expires.

In how many virtual training (VT) classes can Red Hat Learning Subscription Premium subscribers enroll?

Answer: Red Hat Learning Subscription Premium subscribers can enroll in up to 2 VT classes at a time, as long as each class is for a different course offering (SKU). They can unenroll themselves from a VT up to 2 weeks before the class start date. After this deadline, unenrollment requires an approved exception request through Red Hat Support. If the support team does not grant an exception and the subscriber does not attend, they forfeit the enrollment. (This policy helps ensure fair access to class seats and minimizes late cancellations or no-shows that affect other subscribers.)
