Red Hat and AMD partnership

Red Hat and AMD partner together to focus on optimizing AI workloads and virtualized infrastructure across hybrid cloud environments. By combining Red Hat's open-source platforms with AMD's EPYC CPUs and Instinct GPUs, the collaboration allows data centers to efficiently run intensive AI models alongside traditional virtual machines.

Core Pillars of the Collaboration

  • AI Integration: AMD Instinct GPUs are fully supported on Red Hat OpenShift AI, enabling scalable machine learning and large language model (LLM) deployments across on-premises, edge, and public cloud infrastructure. ]
  • Virtualized Performance: Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization is validated for high-core count AMD EPYC processors, allowing enterprises to run containerized applications and legacy VMs on the same hardware to cut costs.
  • vLLM Optimization: Red Hat and AMD are actively contributing to the upstream vLLM community to enhance inference performance, improve collective multi-GPU communication, and lower the barrier to entry for enterprise AI.
  • RHEL AI: RHEL AI is certified to run inference natively on AMD Instinct MI300X GPUs.

Modernize Virtualization and Enable AI with Red Hat OpenShift and AMD

Abstract:

Enterprise IT teams face growing pressure to modernize virtualization platforms while preparing for AI workloads that legacy infrastructure was not designed to support. Too often, virtualization refresh and AI readiness are treated as separate initiatives, driving fragmented platforms, duplicated investment, and operational complexity.

This session explores how Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization, running on AMD EPYC™ based infrastructure, provides a practical path to address both challenges on a single platform. Attendees will see how existing virtual machines can be integrated into OpenShift without application refactoring, while establishing a foundation to support AI workloads as requirements evolve.

We’ll examine architectural patterns where OpenShift Virtualization and OpenShift AI coexist on shared infrastructure, enabling consolidation of VMs, containerized applications, and AI pipelines. This includes how organizations can incrementally introduce AMD Instinct™ GPUs alongside CPU-based inference, aligning infrastructure investments to real workload needs rather than building isolated AI environments. We will also discuss future initiatives designed to enhance virtualized AI workload optimization.

By combining Red Hat’s unified platform approach with AMD scalable compute and accelerators, organizations can modernize virtualization while preserving flexibility as AI requirements evolve.
