Red Hat Helps NTT DATA Corporation Digitally Transform with Open, Cloud-Native Technologies

Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform help NTT DATA extend traditional business services to cloud services infrastructure

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Red Hat, the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that NTT DATA Corporation has used Red Hat’s open hybrid cloud technologies to drive digital transformation. The company’s digital transformation infrastructure, OpenCanvas, has adopted Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Red Hat OpenShift and Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform to help respond to the needs of client companies seeking modernization through cloud service infrastructure.

In the first containerization project using Red Hat OpenShift, we could receive positive evaluation from the field site, and felt its effectiveness. In the future, we hope to drive innovations on OpenCanvas so as to share them in the entire company and build the ecosystem, while using the advantage of scale and price competitiveness.

To start the project, DENTRANS, NTT Data’s application service provider (ASP) offering for financial institutions, was containerized to migrate to OpenCanvas, running on Red Hat OpenShift. By distributing the container image to the development environment and adding automation, NTT DATA was able to improve developer productivity across the application lifecycle, from building to testing to deployment. DENTRANS began full operation in July 2020, with Red Hat continuing to help migrate applications beyond DENTRANS to OpenCanvas.

Red Hat’s approach to open hybrid cloud infrastructure, building on open and flexible infrastructure technologies, won acceptance from NTT DATA, as the company already emphasized openness, transparency and open source innovation for digital transformation. A key driver for NTT DATA’s adoption of Red Hat’s hybrid cloud technologies is the flexible and supported nature of these solutions, as Red Hat’s expertise in delivering these technologies across multiple technical fields makes it easier for NTT DATA to incorporate these offerings into existing operations with limited disruption. The Red Hat solutions adopted by NTT DATA also contribute to the overall enhanced quality of OpenCanvas and its ability to offer competitive pricing. One critical factor in this model is improved service quality thanks to automation driven by Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, which has helped to reduce operational costs across the offering.

Originally being a cloud service for financial institutions, OpenCanvas is characterized by its high reliability, security features and SLA (Service Level Agreement). It is also differentiated from other cloud services by service connections with many domestic banks and local public bodies. Starting with financial and securities industries, OpenCanvas is broadly deployed to industries that demand these capabilities due to regulatory or compliance requirements. Under these circumstances, Red Hat offers support for the companies in terms of both technology and personnel.

By using containers and Red Hat OpenShift, NTT DATA is able to make development and lift-and-shift cloud migration more efficient while maintaining compatibility with the differentiated services comprising the company’s modernization project. By integrating hardware procurement, operational design and technical verification for each project into cloud services, Red Hat will help support the company to drive innovation and maintain a leadership position in a competitive market. As part of its work with NTT DATA, Red Hat will also provide assistance for digital transformation, IT modernization, agile development and the creation of new innovative services.
