Success Story
Mizuho uses automation to improve setup time and stability
Overview
When Mizuho Financial Group created a private cloud infrastructure to consolidate its servers, system size and complexity created delays. They implemented Red Hat® Ansible® Automation Platform to automate all hardware resource provisioning, and reduced the time needed to build virtual servers by 78%, from 77 work hours per ten virtual servers to just 17 work hours. With automation, hardware setup for new virtual servers can be completed in as few as three days, rather than six weeks.
While open source software is a reasonable option in terms of cost and innovation, there is value in the fact that Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform is the de facto standard Ansible product, backed by Red Hat’s enterprise support.
Challenge
Reduce setup time for new environments
Mizuho Financial Group, one of Japan’s three major megabanks, performs comprehensive assessment of banking and financial markets. When its internal IT company created a private cloud infrastructure, Mizuho Cloud, to consolidate nearly 1,000 physical servers and 3,500 virtual servers, system size and complexity created delays. Hardware provisioning required close to six weeks of manual, on-site work by multiple engineers, and they needed a way to reduce setup time for new environments
Solution
Standardize and automate hardware resource provisioning
In order to respond to market changes faster and reduce setup time for virtual and physical development environments, Mizuho turned to Red Hat. After a successful proof of concept, they implemented Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform to automate all hardware resource provisioning. The agentless, integrated nature and robust operational control capabilities made Ansible Automation Platform an ideal approach for standardizing automation of all provisioning processes.
Business outcome
Reduce provisioning time from weeks to days
Mizuho created an automated, standard series of setup processes using Ansible Automation Platform. The stability and reliability of this infrastructure has significantly improved the speed and quality of deployments across different teams and locations. They reduced the time needed to build virtual servers by 78%, from 77 work hours per ten virtual servers to just 17 work hours, and hardware setup for new virtual servers can be completed in as few as three days, rather than six weeks.
