More than ever before, the industrialized world is facing daily change. Our work processes are becoming increasingly complex, and with that comes greater demands for flexibility and scalability.

Progressive globalization and the necessary sustainability regarding climate change present entirely different requirements for the concept of efficiency than just a few years ago.

The requirements for modern IT infrastructures are being redefined everyday. In the past, it was enough to provide sufficient hardware to perform tasks, but today, the key to success lies in implementing efficient, flexible, and scalable solutions. This is where virtualization emerges as the outstanding tool to achieve these goals.

Virtualization has also evolved to meet these challenges. While virtualization used to mean fully abstracting an entire operating system, we have now discovered the benefits are not just contained to the hypervisor layer but the management paradigm on top.

With the increasing adoption of hybrid cloud environments, organizations are seriously considering OpenShift Virtualization as a solution that provides these benefits for their virtual machines. OpenShift has built in features  of  multi-tenancy, self-service, api-driven, automation, CI/CD, observability and monitoring and a rich ecosystem of infrastructure and cloud partners. OpenShift Virtualization allows businesses to leverage their existing virtualization investments while embracing the agility and scalability of OpenShift. By seamlessly integrating VMs into the OpenShift platform, organizations can achieve a unified infrastructure that simplifies management, enhances resource utilization, and promotes application portability.

How do you implement this Change?

Hardly any company in the world operates without virtualized systems. As customers realize that Red Hat OpenShift is the solution for their future, companies have to consider the path to get there and how this will affect their infrastructure.  Transformation not only requires new installations and learning management, but also the eventual migration of existing virtual systems to their new home.

Red Hat does not leave you alone in the rain in this regard. With the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV), we have been providing our customers with a powerful tool for making the journey to OpenShift as easy as possible for some time now. Take one or more of these workloads and leverage migration tooling from Red Hat to bring to the new environment. Have a test plan to go through your evaluation criteria and incorporate more workloads as you get familiar with the environment.

MTV is available to you as a General Availability version with full support for VMWare vSphere and Red Hat Virtualization (RHV) to migrate to OpenShift. Additionally, in the current 2.4 version, we are introducing the migration from OpenStack as a Tech Preview, responding to the demands from our customer conversations.

MTV 2.4 - A more advanced tool to make this change.

Red Hat MTV tool has  full support for VMWare vSphere and Red Hat Virtualization (RHV) to migrate to OpenShift. Additionally, in the current 2.4 version, we are introducing the migration from OpenStack as a Tech Preview, responding to the demands from our customer conversations.

With MTV 2.4, all existing virtual machines are still evaluated before the actual process and any challenges are pointed out.

Alongside the added OpenStack support, MTV is now fully integrated into the OpenShift User interface. This makes the tool particularly intuitive to use and significantly enhances the user-friendliness of migrations to OpenShift.

Improved monitoring features will always show you where you are:

A range of improvements in terms of security, stability, and performance make MTV 2.4 a powerful tool that is not afraid of handling 50,000 or more VMs. We have implemented the lessons learned from past projects to simplify what drives us daily:
