Microsoft Azure Red Hat OpenShift is a jointly managed, turnkey application development platform that allows you to more quickly and easily build and deploy Kubernetes clusters on demand. While we at Red Hat talk about how this product is Azure-native and jointly managed between Microsoft and Red Hat, why does this actually matter to you as a customer?

Four benefits of the collaboration between Microsoft and Red Hat

While there are numerous benefits to Azure Red Hat OpenShift being jointly built and managed by Red Hat and Microsoft, let's dive into four that will benefit you the most.

1. Integrated development tools

When your developers need the basic building blocks to deploy their application environments, they can rely on developer tools from both OpenShift and Azure to help them innovate more quickly and easily. Also, with self-service deployment, they can create fully-managed OpenShift clusters in minutes through the Azure portal.

As a turnkey application platform with fully-integrated tools and consistent interfaces, this allows your developers to get more done and reduces friction within your team during development, deployment and operations. Developers are able to choose the languages and tools they work with, and since management is shifted to Red Hat and Microsoft, they can focus on developing innovative projects for your business. The diagram below illustrates some of the tools your developers can use.

2. Enhanced IT security and compliance

Security is a top priority when it comes to your cloud environment and Azure Red Hat OpenShift has built-in security features that can help. Our teams continually monitor for common vulnerabilities and exposures (CVEs) and work to identify fixes before they become a problem. Other key security features include private cluster management and ingress endpoints, multi-availability zone clusters, single sign-on with your identity provider and full control for administrators.

As an Azure-native solution, you also benefit from a range of compliance offerings, including PCI, DSS, FedRAMP, HIPAA and more maintained by Microsoft Azure. You can learn more about compliance offerings here.

3. Joint support and engineering

Azure Red Hat OpenShift features an integrated support experience where you can contact either company with a single support ticket, which can reduce your wait time for a resolution and mitigates potential interruptions on your teams’ hybrid cloud projects. Also, since Red Hat and Microsoft are both working with customers, new features are created jointly to better meet evolving customer needs. With 24x7 support and a 99.95% service level agreement (SLA), your development environment is (almost) always up and running.

Also, with a global site reliability engineering (SRE) team that manages the full stack—from infrastructure to daily operations—any issues that do arise will be dealt with as quickly as possible. The SRE teams also enable self-service and automated tasks, allowing for faster application deployment.

4. Optimize your spending more easily

Keeping track of billing for your cloud platform can be overwhelming, but Azure portal tools make it easier. You can use your Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment (MACC) toward Azure Red Hat OpenShift, and the Azure portal offers cost management and billing resources that allow you to set budget alerts and resource tags, and pay your single invoice. With MACC you can also work with Microsoft to receive discounts on prepaid Azure consumption.

Azure Red Hat Openshift gives you the best of Red Hat OpenShift and Microsoft Azure with the choice and flexibility you need. With access to developer tools, joint support, Azure billing tools and top security and compliance features, your team can more confidently build and scale applications with a streamlined experience, while Red Hat and Microsoft manage the rest.
