Enterprise-grade storage for Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS

Kubernetes is a popular choice among many developers for application deployments, and many of these deployments can benefit from a persistent, shared storage layer. Red Hat and Amazon Web Services (AWS) offer this capability through Red Hat® OpenShift® Service on AWS—a fully managed application platform on AWS, developed by Red Hat and jointly supported by AWS and Red Hat. OpenShift Service on AWS offers an additional integration with Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP (FSx for ONTAP).

FSx for ONTAP is a fully managed service that provides highly reliable, scalable, high-performing, and feature-rich file storage built on NetApp's popular ONTAP file system. FSx for ONTAP combines the familiar features, performance, capabilities, and application programming interface (API) operations of NetApp file systems with the agility, scalability, and simplicity of a fully managed AWS service.

Developer's guide to Kubernetes storage

Accelerate migration, improve application resilience and agility, and reduce storage costs

FSx for ONTAP provides access to popular ONTAP features like Snapshots, FlexClone technology, cross-region replication with SnapMirror, and a highly available file server with seamless failover. Manage, share, and access data throughout the application modernization process. This allows access for both older applications and new, restructured applications and accommodates the new requirements for refactored applications.

Improve your stateful application data resilience with FSx for ONTAP by supporting Multi-AZ, high availability, and cross-region data replication for disaster recovery.

Provide improved cost performance for OpenShift Service on AWS workloads. Deliver high-performance storage, using FSx for ONTAP, while reducing the storage cost for stateful containerized applications using unique features like deduplication, compression, compaction, Snapshots, thin provisioning, and storage network optimization costs. Provide application-aware, immediate Snapshots and database-aware, durable backups locally and on Amazon S3. Allow restore and shipping of backed-up applications between clusters in the cloud and between on-premise and cloud environments.

Feature-rich, fast, and flexible shared file storage, accessible from OpenShift Service on AWS instances

FSx for ONTAP offers high-performance solid state drive (SSD) storage with submillisecond latencies. With FSx for ONTAP, you can achieve SSD levels of performance for your workload while paying for SSD storage for only a fraction of your data.

Managing your OpenShift Service on AWS data with FSx for ONTAP is simpler because you can snapshot, clone, and replicate your files with the click of a button. In addition, FSx for ONTAP automatically tiers your data to lower-cost, elastic storage, lessening the need to provision or manage capacity.

FSx for ONTAP also provides highly available and durable storage with fully managed backups and support for cross-region disaster recovery. To effectively safeguard your data, FSx for ONTAP supports popular data security and antivirus applications.

For customers who use Red Hat OpenShift on-premise, FSx for ONTAP is an ideal solution to migrate, back up, or burst your file-based applications from on-premise to AWS without the need to change your application code or how you manage your data.
