When a global automotive manufacturer needed to increase IT efficiency and control platform costs for both traditional and modern workloads, it turned to long-time partner Everpure and Red Hat. The team built a unified platform on Portworx by Everpure, Red Hat® OpenShift® Virtualization and Red Hat Ansible® Automation Platform that supports automation, disaster recovery, and policy-driven controls. With the new solution, the manufacturer has reduced provisioning times by 90%, decreased platform costs by 38%, and can deliver applications 3 times faster to accelerate innovation.
Challenge
Unifying IT environments to increase efficiency and control
Large automotive manufacturing organizations must balance flexibility, cost control, and scalability within their IT operations. Many have traditional, fragmented IT environments, which can cause inefficiencies. For a particular global company, its disparate manufacturing, enterprise IT, and R&D infrastructures had resulted in inconsistent deployment, recovery, and governance models. At the same time, changes in the virtualization vendor landscape had introduced uncertainty in licensing, pricing models, and long-term flexibility.
The automotive manufacturer recognized that it needed a unified hybrid platform capable of supporting both traditional and modern workloads with strict uptime, while supporting AI/ML initiatives and edge processing across distributed environments. This transformation depended on migrating large system volumes with minimal disruption, ensuring effective disaster recovery and near-zero data loss, and consolidating diverse storage into a single, globally scalable model capable of supporting 1000s of workloads without compromising performance or control.
Solution
Building a unified, scalable foundation for modern workloads
The automotive manufacturer partnered with Portworx by Everpure and Red Hat to establish a unified, open, software-defined platform to support both virtual machines (VMs) and containers, built on Portworx by Everpure and Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization.
The team selected Red Hat due to its enterprise-grade Kubernetes capabilities, strong open source leadership, and ability to deliver a consistent hybrid cloud experience across global environments. The automotive manufacturer selected Portworx as the data layer to automate workflows, enable stateful Kubernetes with replication and DR, and unify data operations wherever OpenShift is deployed, eliminating CSI sprawl across diverse storage environments.

The manufacturer, Everpure, and Red Hat Professional Services worked together to design the new joint architecture, before deploying multi-cluster OpenShift environments across the manufacturer’s global datacenters. The team, which also includes a Red Hat Technical Account Manager (TAM), integrated automation with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, observability, and disaster recovery, and migrated 1000s of workloads to the new unified platform. The new solution architecture connects Everpure and other data storage platforms under one control plane to manage both VMs and containers at the manufacturer. It includes automated provisioning, scaling, and lifecycle management using GitOps, policy-driven controls and built-in disaster recovery, with near-zero data loss and rapid recovery times.

By working with Everpure and Red Hat, the automotive manufacturer established a platform that accelerates IT service delivery, reduces operational risk, and frees up more resources for innovation. For example, provisioning times have decreased from 5-10 days to less than 2 hours—a reduction of 90%—thanks to automated workflows. Using self-service templates, development teams can deploy environments the same day, increasing agility and user satisfaction. At the same time, a unified, policy-driven automation model replaces the manufacturer’s previously fragmented processes, supporting near-zero data loss and recovery times of less than a minute for critical workloads to reduce risk and unplanned downtime.
By transitioning to an open, software-defined architecture, the company has reduced total cost of ownership by around 38%, freeing up budget for innovation in AI, edge computing, and advanced manufacturing. With its standardized global platform to support both traditional and cloud-native workloads, developers can deliver applications up to 3 times faster.
