Intel recently launched the 2nd generation of Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors, a family of high-end, enterprise-focused processors targeted at diverse range of workloads. To see how Intel’s new chips measure up, we’ve worked with Intel and others to run benchmarks with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6 and Intel’s 2nd generation Xeon processors.
The new CPUs include updated hardware-based security features, increased memory capacity and feature enhanced compute cores with Intel Advanced Vector Extensions 512 (AVX-512). Moreover, the added support for Intel Optane DC persistent memory modules enables additional performance improvements at the system level.
Higher per-core performance, faster memory and storage combined with workload-optimized cores benefit overall system performance making this new generation of CPUs an attractive target for original equipment manufacturers (OEM) partners to benchmark using RHEL7.6. As shown in the table partners have chosen to run and publish benchmark results with RHEL7.6 posting world records on standard benchmarks in conjunction with the Intel launch.
Leaning on our long history of collaboration, Red Hat and Intel once again worked together to deliver state-of-the-art performance to the enterprise data centers and beyond. Red Hat’s development and performance engineering teams have been working on hardware enablement and validation of these new scalable processors for more than a year resulting in 35 benchmark publications using Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
The Performance team at Red Hat collaborates with our software partners and hardware OEMs to measure and optimize performance across workloads that range from database and Java applications to ERP and analytic applications, among others. The culmination of this multi-months work is a set of world records produced by our OEM partners that use Red Hat Enterprise Linux to deliver top scores on TPC, SPEC, STAC and SAP1 industry standard benchmarks.
This table captures the highest reported scores across various standard benchmarks that used Red Hat Enterprise Linux, as posted by OEM partners on April 2, 2019.
