Red Hat, Inc., the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced the winners of the 2019 Red Hat APAC Innovation Awards for Indonesia. PT Bank Central Asia (BCA) and Telkomsel were recognized at the Red Hat Forum in Jakarta, Indonesia today for their outstanding and innovative usage of Red Hat solutions.
Open source has the power to not only improve IT systems but also transform how we interact and solve problems collectively.
With the theme of "Expand Your Possibilities", the Red Hat Forum APAC 2019 aims to inspire organizations to think beyond their normal day-to-day and challenges they face, and explore ways open source can help generate impactful innovations. One way of doing so is by honoring organizations that have demonstrated creative thinking, determined problem-solving and transformative uses of Red Hat technology through the 2019 Red Hat APAC Innovation Awards.
The winners were selected based on the impact of their Red Hat deployments on their business, industry and the community. They showcased how open source tools and culture were key to achieving efficiency, productivity, and agility – all of which can enable continuous innovation and help them create a flexible foundation that can meet an organization’s needs today and well into the future.
Categories: Agile integration
Winner: PT Bank Central Asia (Tbk)
According to a recent report, 71% of working age individuals from the middle to lower income bracket in Indonesia have no access to credit last year.
To help boost financial inclusion in the country, PT Bank Central Asia (BCA) sought to become more agile, developing and deploying services in a more responsive manner. This motivated them to move away from its legacy enterprise application integration platform into one that offered API-based integration and enable greater agility.
By deploying Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and Red Hat 3Scale API Management with the help of Red Hat Consulting, BCA gained a modern architecture based on APIs to integrate its internal systems and applications faster and in a scalable manner. Since the architecture has also been verified to adhere to BCA’s standard IT security policy and governance, it enabled the company’s IT application teams to develop and deploy applications more securely and efficiently. These capabilities helped accelerate time to market of new initiatives and features of existing products, which ultimately empowers the bank to cater its services to the financial needs of both its existing customers as well as the unbanked.
The Agile Integration category showcases the project that best represents the value of agile integration.
Categories: Digital transformation
Winner: PT Telekomunikasi Selular
Telkomsel, the largest cellular operator in Indonesia, serves around 168 million customers today and brings telecommunications service access across the country. Being the first to commercially launch 4G LTE mobile services in Indonesia, the company prides itself on consistent innovation to expand its digital business, including digital lifestyle, mobile financial services, digital advertising, Big Data, and Internet of Things (IoT).
Established in 1995, Telkomsel’s legacy systems hindered it from moving faster to accommodate business and customer needs as its business grew. To counter this and increased competition, Telkomsel set out a strategic business direction in 2017 to undergo digital transformation and stay ahead of the curve.
To address the challenge of monolithic and siloed systems, duplicate functions and a complex integration process which required heavy investments of resources just to keep the lights on, the telco embarked on a Digital Core platform and migrated to cloud-native applications using containers and microservices with Red Hat OpenShift, the industry’s most comprehensive enterprise Kubernetes platform, to eliminate duplicate services and accelerate speed to market. API-based services also simplified the integration with third-party partners and enabled it to pilot three new products in its Digital Core project: a browse and purchase product, customer information service and a mobile wallet service.
Since working with Red Hat, Telkomsel has been able to improve its agility, thereby achieving a three-fold improvement in its time to market for delivering new products. Automating its processes has also freed up resources to innovate and improve its customer service levels.
The Digital Transformation category recognizes organizations that have successfully addressed IT challenges and delivered business value to effectively compete as a digital enterprise.
Winners will be recognized at each event in the 10-stop Red Hat Forum APAC event series. Each event will feature a maximum of two winning projects, with both enterprise and government organizations encouraged to participate.
Dirk-Peter van Leeuwen, senior vice president and general manager, APAC, Red Hat
