The extended maintenance includes certain critical-impact security fixes, selected urgent-priority bug fixes, and troubleshooting for the last minor release of a major version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. This is crucial for organizations facing constraints such as hardware compatibility or complex application dependencies that prevent immediate migration to a newer major release.

Minor editions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux
The subscription further enhances stability with six years of extended maintenance for even-numbered minor releases, offering a predictable, static update stream that allows organizations to maintain a consistent environment for an extended period without pressure to immediately upgrade. This provides extra years of security and urgent bug fixes for specific Red Hat Enterprise Linux minor releases. This subscription is ideal for production environments with strict change control, applications that require a specific minor release, or organizations for which the standard minor release cycle is too frequent.

Security fixes provided for both versions
Customers with a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Extended Life Cycle, Premium subscription can receive security fixes for Critical, Important, and Moderate CVEs with a CVSS score of 7 or higher, as defined by Red Hat in a Red Hat Security Advisory. Red Hat can also provide urgent and selected high-priority bug fixes, as defined by Red Hat in a Red Hat Bug Advisory, for packages within Red Hat Enterprise Linux, as long as the package is not at end of life.
