Today marks 25 years since Red Hat was incorporated by Bob Young and Marc Ewing, and to help us celebrate, State of North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper and City of Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane have declared March 26, 2018, as Red Hat Day across North Carolina and in Raleigh, respectively.
Red Hat was established in 1993 and has remained a proud resident of North Carolina since. We grew from our first corporate headquarters in Durham to North Carolina State University’s Centennial Campus to our current global headquarters in downtown Raleigh, “the open source city.”
Recognizing today as Red Hat Day is important to us for many reasons. We’re proud to have played a part in the growth of the technology sector in Raleigh, across North Carolina, and around the world, and to have helped make open source what it is today. Thank you to the customers, partners, and Red Hat associates who made that possible.
We strive to not only foster the tech industry, but also the community where many Red Hatters live, helping Raleigh to become a place that is “Open to All.” Through the years we’ve collaborated with the City of Raleigh on many initiatives, most recently jointly supporting The Raleigh/Wake Partnership to End and Prevent Homelessness during our sponsorship of the Moore Square Park renovations. Conferences like All Things Open, CityCamp, Datapalooza, and more, have helped advance open innovation. There have been many more examples of efforts and initiatives in North Carolina and Raleigh that make us proud to be headquartered here, and we look forward to many more in the future.
Thank you to the Governor and Mayor for recognizing our 25th anniversary with Red Hat Day. We’re including the full text of their proclamations below.
