In this month’s customer success highlights, learn how Colombia’s Superintendence of Industry and Commerce, Westech and Kaizen Gaming used Red Hat OpenShift to accelerate time to market, improve scalability and expand services while also meeting stringent security and compliance requirements.
Colombia’s SIC delivers digital industry and commerce services to citizens
Colombia’s Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) is a government agency dedicated to upholding the rights of the country’s consumers and manages the National System of Industrial Property.
SIC handles tens of thousands of consumer protection and market control cases each year. Previously, all case files were paper-based and completed by hand. SIC needed to modernize this process while meeting regulations for electronic case files, simplifying operations and improving access for citizens. The COVID-19 pandemic made this work critical, with lockdowns preventing citizens from submitting claims in person.
SIC’s previous relationship with Red Hat influenced its decision to use Red Hat OpenShift to build the foundation of its new digital services environment. The agency also adopted Red Hat Process Automation Manager, which is optimized for application development with OpenShift.
SIC’s teams worked remotely during the pandemic with Red Hat Consulting and Red Hat Premium Support—including specialists from several countries—to plan and deliver the new architecture. This responsive container-based environment now supports a range of digital, citizen-facing services, including a consolidated digital justice system.
With the comprehensive automation and management capabilities included in its new Red Hat environment, SIC has successfully digitized manual processes, such as protection case filing.

Kaizen Gaming modernizes legacy IT systems to support engaging gambling experiences
Based in Athens, Greece, Kaizen Gaming is one of the world’s fastest-growing gametech companies, providing sports betting, casino gambling and other services in 10 countries.
The media and entertainment company wanted to modernize its gaming platform infrastructure as it expanded to new countries. Its monolithic legacy applications were built by a small team of engineers and, over time, became quite complex. As the company’s development team grew, this complexity made using and managing processes at scale more difficult.
To simplify and scale its IT infrastructure and platforms, Kaizen decided to divide its larger legacy applications into microservices and adopt more iterative processes.
Kaizen’s initial proof of concept (POC) didn’t have the scalability and efficiency the company needed. It also required a lot of troubleshooting and manager involvement. So, with help from Red Hat Consulting, the team replaced their POC with Red Hat OpenShift, running it on bare metal.
After a test deployment, Red Hat’s technology experts helped to redesign and redeploy Kaizen’s bonus platform as .NET Core microservices in this new environment.
After speeding development and improving service scalability for its bonus platform application, Kaizen now plans to expand its microservices architecture to new, more complex projects.

Westech launches microservices to keep pace with the evolution of digital marketing
Westech creates digital products and experiences for some of the world’s leading privately-owned media companies in the health, finance and travel industries.
To meet growing demand, Westech wanted to adopt a microservices-based application development architecture. In search of a solution that would provide the container capabilities to meet client demand and prevent vendor lock-in, the company turned to Red Hat Consulting.
Assisted by Red Hat engineers, about 50 people from Westech’s development team completed a three-day Red Hat OpenShift hackathon. The hackathon's success led the company to move forward with the project.
With Red Hat’s guidance, Westech employed Red Hat OpenShift Dedicated, a fully-managed solution that runs in an Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. With the addition of DevOps and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), developers can now provision new environments in just minutes and deliver new features in a matter of months. Teams can also respond to traffic increases when needed at a lower cost.
In addition to helping its clients meet complex direct marketing needs faster, Westech can now help them take advantage of intelligent data insights, such as behavioral analytics, to segment and address their customer bases.
