Introducing new connectivity options
Following the announcement of Red Hat Insights proxy in technology preview, we are pleased to announce that this service is now generally available.
Red Hat Insights proxy helps streamline the connectivity between your environment and Red Hat’s powerful Insights services. It acts as a lightweight proxy, enabling you to access various lifecycle and security services for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) without directly connecting RHEL hosts.
Value of Red Hat Insights proxy:
- The proxy simplifies network connectivity through efficient integration, so that all traffic is confined to Red Hat services and adhering to strict security protocols.
- Data transfer to security-hardened, trusted channels enhances security, allowing you to maintain high-security policies while accessing Red Hat’s services, even in highly restricted network environments.
- Systems don’t need to connect directly to the Internet, enabling high-security networks to benefit from Red Hat services without compromising security.
- Simplified operations with easy installation and configuration, saving you time and reducing technical barriers.
How Red Hat Insights proxy works

Red Hat Insights proxy acts as an intermediary between your RHEL systems and Red Hat’s cloud-based Insights services, enabling security-hardened and efficient data exchange without requiring direct internet access for individual hosts.
At its core, the proxy is a lightweight containerized service that aggregates and forwards telemetry, security and lifecycle data from your RHEL systems to Insights. It is designed to run within a single bastion host setup, so that all communication remains confined to trusted Red Hat endpoints while adhering to stringent security policies.
The proxy reduces network complexity by handling outbound connections on behalf of multiple hosts, eliminating the need for each system to independently manage connectivity.
What’s next
What’s next for Red Hat Insights proxy?
The journey of Red Hat Insights proxy doesn’t stop here. As we continue to refine and enhance its capabilities, we are working on several improvements to further streamline connectivity, security and performance for RHEL users.
Upcoming Enhancements
- Content caching for efficiency
Future updates will introduce content caching, enabling organizations to cache frequently accessed data locally. This will reduce network load, improve response times and optimize bandwidth usage.
- Enhanced data control and obfuscation
We are exploring host and IP address obfuscation capabilities, while also allowing customers to control what data is shared while still gaining the full benefits of Insights.
- Expanding deployment options and supported footprints
Today, Red Hat Insights proxy runs as a Podman container, managed by systemd. In future iterations, we aim to introduce support for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, enabling a smooth integration within containerized environments.
Continuous innovation and customer collaboration
We remain committed to gathering customer feedback and iterating on Red Hat Insights proxy to address real-world challenges. By working closely with early adopters and incorporating their input, we aim to deliver a solution that meets and exceeds enterprise security and performance expectations.
Stay tuned for more updates as we expand functionality and enhance usability, so that Red Hat Insights proxy remains a powerful bridge between high-security environments and Red Hat’s cloud services.
