Heartwell brings more than 36 years of professional experience in technology, strategy and leadership that spans domains as diverse as weapon systems diagnostics, simulation based training & wargaming, information security, intelligent video surveillance, aerial & satellite reconnaissance, and healthcare.

In collaboration with other senior leadership, Heartwell provides thought leadership and guidance on the power of open source in digital modernization and application of open culture to achieving enterprise excellence. Prior to joining Red Hat, Heartwell served as CTO of Presidio Government Solutions; as a competitive solutions expert in an IBM center of excellence; as the senior technology leader/executive in companies including Perthera, ObjectVideo and Aurora Enterprise Solutions; and as a business and technology consultant for large defense contractors and high-tech startups.
