By leveraging Red Hat OpenShift, the leading Kubernetes-based container orchestration platform, stc Group’s Jawwy application has developed a flexible and agile platform with comprehensive automation capabilities. The strategic move to embrace Red Hat OpenShift is designed to enhance operational efficiency and reduce time to market.
Jawwy by stc, a digital mobile service provider and part of stc Group, has embraced Red Hat OpenShift to transform and accelerate the deployment of cloud-native applications. Jawwy is a first-of-its-kind service in the MENA region and operating within the stc Group network, the kingdom’s leading digital enabler. Through its digital application, Jawwy allows customers to personalize, monitor, and manage their plans in real time, offering users the world-class connectivity that drives stc Group’s services and offerings.
The adoption of Red Hat OpenShift has streamlined and simplified the onboarding processes for microservice-based applications, making these scalable and independent microservices easier to integrate across the stc Group application ecosystem. This allows Jawwy’s development teams to focus more on innovation rather than infrastructure management. The adoption of the GitOps methodology, a modern approach to continuous delivery, has also significantly increased operational efficiency by ensuring consistency, version control, and reliability across cloud environments.
Improving operational efficiency
Billing and online charging systems (OCS) are essential elements of a service provider’s business infrastructure. To enhance system stability and prevent customer experience issues, Jawwy partnered with Red Hat to leverage best-practice container technologies and day-2 operations.
A Red Hat Technical Account Manager (TAM) was appointed to guide Jawwy on maximizing the value of open-source software and ensuring best practices while leveraging all Red Hat capabilities. A resident engineer with deep knowledge of Jawwy’s stc Group network, systems, and operational practices was also brought in to help maintain a stable environment through day-2 operations.
Achievements and future growth
The Red Hat TAM was actively involved throughout the engagement, performing health checks, working closely with Red Hat Kernel Support to identify and resolve issues, and organizing regular sync calls with vendors and stc Group operations. This comprehensive guidance and knowledge transfer were crucial in ensuring Jawwy’s success.
Jawwy not only resolved its initial issue but also achieved several business benefits, including:
- Stabilizing the IT environment, leading to increased operational efficiency
- Enhancing scalability, allowing for the adoption of new technology
- Opening new business opportunities
- Improving customer satisfaction
- Strengthening a trust-based partnership ready for more innovation
As Jawwy and stc Group continue to expand, Red Hat's focus remains on reinforcing and protecting stc Group’s vast digital ecosystem to ensure a strong foundation for future growth.
