Linux is the open source computer operating system that's behind much of the world's technology. An operating system is the software that manages a computer system's hardware and resources (such as the processor, memory, and storage) and connects those resources to the applications you're running. There are many varieties (or distributions) of Linux, which offer different options and customizations. Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is a Linux distribution targeted at large enterprises, which use it to power their bare-metal, virtual, container, and cloud environments.
