Across Asia Pacific, we have been working closely with customers on a wide spectrum of IT transformation projects. Today, Linux and open source have become the foundational technology for the modern enterprise. From public to private sectors, education providers to mass market retailers, more organizations are seeing open source solutions as their de-facto choice, rather than just an alternative. Red Hat continues to build open and enterprise-ready foundation for cloud with the largest ecosystem for commercially supported OpenStack deployments.
Each year at our flagship event, the Red Hat Summit, we announce a series of upcoming solutions or updates to our existing portfolio of services and products. This year's line-up will be nothing short of exciting. Partners such as Cisco, Dell, HP, IBM and Intel will be presenting at the summit and we will also be hearing from customers across the globe who will share their success stories with us.
A key topic we are focusing on this year will be on OpenStack projects we have been working on with customers and the community. Some 60% of OpenStack users deploy the cloud open source framework as an in-house private cloud. Since announcing Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform last year, we have had the opportunity to work with customers from the public sector on OpenStack implementations in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and more. We look forward to hearing from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) of Singapore's High Performance Computing Centre, who is one of the innovators participating in a panel discussion to talk about how they are working with Red Hat to modernize and scale their IT infrastructures while saving costs.
Organizations such as NTU are using OpenStack as a solution to bridge the gap between a private and public cloud, without compromising on other open source benefits such as security, flexibility and scalability. OpenStack with its global community of technologists, developers, researchers, corporations and cloud computing experts, delivers a massively scalable operating system that will prove to be a necessity to cope with the dynamic challenges faced by organizations dealing with large data volume and the need to analyze and make sense of data.
At the OpenStack Summit in Hong Kong last November, Agatha Poon of 451 Research Group observed in her keynote presentation that “there are a handful of commercial deployments in Asia-Pacific, and the market for OpenStack is still defining itself”. The beauty of OpenStack is that it can be used by both really big and really small companies. Big names like PayPal, Comcast and Yahoo have started to deploy OpenStack and it is a matter of time when the small companies realize the hundreds of reasons to run OpenStack.
We are greatly encouraged by the keen interest shown by more than 3,000 attendees from 50 countries at the summit in Hong Kong, and we are confident that OpenStack will continue to gain more attention across the regions as businesses pursue IT-enabled innovation in their journey towards transformation. We can expect to see more OpenStack implementations across the region and support services, such as OpenStack-focused consulting and training services to closely follow.
We at Red Hat are looking towards a future that has never been so open and we welcome all of you to join us and learn more from Jim Whitehurst, president and CEO, Red Hat; Paul Cormier, president, Products and Technologies; and Brian Stevens, executive vice president and CTO on the future of IT at our 10th annual Red Hat Summit.
