Red Hat in brief
An open approach to enterprise IT challenges
More than 2 decades ago, Red Hat had a vision for developing better enterprise software. By collaborating with IT leaders, open source advocates, developers, and partners, we created the foundation for our technological future: Red Hat® Linux®, followed by Red Hat Enterprise Linux. But that was just the beginning.
Today, Red Hat continues to be a leader in open source software development, with a broad portfolio of products and services for enterprise IT. From Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and Chief Technology Officers (CTOs) to system admins and developers, IT departments around the world rely on us to deliver solutions that meet their business needs. We believe in transparency, openness, and neutrality—and this focus helps us build and maintain crucial relationships with hundreds of open source software communities. Red Hat is a leading contributor to key open source projects like Kubernetes, with the enterprise platforms and expertise to support the hybrid cloud capabilities organizations need for modern business.
Our passion for open source software helped expand a movement that now leads the way in application development, performance, automation, and security. Red Hat uses this experience to provide technologies and services to more than 90% of U.S. Fortune 500 companies.1
Many organizations now use open source technology in their enterprise environments, but require the added stability and expertise of an enterprise lifecycle and expert technical support. Red Hat offers a broad portfolio of products and services—including award-winning support, consulting, and training—to help organizations solve real-world business challenges with technology. For more than 30 years, Red Hat has worked with customers to deliver the right mix of community innovation and business security and reliability.
An adaptable foundation for the future of IT
Hybrid cloud infrastructure. As IT organizations embrace new technologies and approaches, they also must continue to support existing systems and processes that run and protect active operations. To compete and grow, businesses and developers need reliable, security-focused, and dynamic infrastructure. Hybrid cloud infrastructure, available on demand with automated scaling and lifecycle management, helps organizations deliver services more efficiently across any environment.
Cloud-native development. Modern applications can run across complex hybrid cloud environments without modification. This capability helps organizations advance their strategies and get the most from innovative new technologies and practices like microservices, edge, and DevSecOps.
Artificial intelligence (AI). AI processes and statistical algorithms—such as machine learning (ML) and generative AI (gen AI)—can simulate and augment human intelligence to apply broader insight to business challenges. While AI requires new skills, it can help IT teams collect, process, and analyze massive quantities of data. Open source large language models (LLMs) and AI tools can help organizations build, deploy, monitor, and use AI models and applications enhanced by the speed, trust, and transparency of the open source community.
A portfolio of open technology built for change:
- Linux platforms
- Cloud services
- AI technology
- Edge computing
- Application development tools and services
- Automation and management solutions

Edge computing. When crucial systems or applications require low-latency responsiveness, deploying IT at the network edge rather than the core datacenter or cloud can speed data collection and processing from local devices for faster, data-driven decisions. As a result, organizations can deliver more reliable, responsive services and experiences to their users and customers. With components often procured from multiple vendors, interoperable platforms that support a wide vendor ecosystem without lock-in are key.
IT automation and management. Analysis and orchestration across cloud and bare-metal deployments helps organizations find and fix flaws in less time and automate manual or repetitive tasks. As a result, IT departments have more time and resources available to focus on ways to innovate and grow business. Integration of software, services, application programming interfaces (APIs), data, and devices is also key. Digital information is stored in disparate locations, but it needs to be accessed by applications, processes, and people. Simplifying the connections between customers, other businesses, employees, applications, processes, and databases makes capabilities reusable and increases efficiency.
Enterprise open sources alternatives to business as usual
Red Hat does things differently. With a focus on consistency, scalability, and security, we offer flexibility and choice across a comprehensive portfolio—including integration with a broad ecosystem of certified partners—to help you find the right technology for your business goals and challenges.
