One of the most significant shifts that developers have had to face has been the coming of age of the hybrid cloud. Cloud-native paradigms like microservices and Linux containers – and now serverless – have shaken up traditional application development practices. Modern application development in a cloud-native world requires developers to apply new tools and new ways of thinking.
When we introduced the Red Hat Developer program in 2015, our goal was to build a community and provide a space where developers could come to learn, share and grow. We knew that developers are the most valuable asset to the modern economy and we wanted to make them successful. Our first step was making sure they could easily get access to Red Hat technologies and tools. We then began developing materials to help developers get started—tutorials, books, and videos that show a way forward. In short, we wanted to help developers start solving their problems with Red Hat products as quickly as possible.
The world we live and work in today is vastly different from what it was even three years ago. The ability to create and deliver great software is now what differentiates many companies. We believe the organizations that are primed to succeed are those that are embracing hybrid cloud and cloud-native development, and we are striving every day to equip them with the resources they need.
In addition to assets, tools, and know-how, we also have a duty to provide our guidance on how to best build with these new technologies. Developers want to solve problems, but they also want to expand their knowledge and grow their careers, and they want to connect with other people who are on the same journey.
Today I’m proud to announce that we have over one million members who have joined us on our journey. We appreciate your support in reaching this milestone so quickly and view your support as validation of Red Hat’s approach to open source methodologies in an enterprise environment. Because of your ongoing feedback developers in our program can more easily access and adopt our products, enabling them to test and deploy solutions to their customers more efficiently. I want to thank everyone who has joined our journey to date and I look forward to your continued feedback.
One of the things you'll notice this year is a new look and feel for the program. We are striving to capture the essence of what it means to be a developer and to build a community that embraces diversity, inclusion and togetherness. To enable this we introduced a new logo that better encapsulates what our developers do every day - code. We added content to better inform developers on trends in the industry and we are in the process of overhauling our web experience to better guide you to the content you seek. Over the next few months, we will continue to add content, including improved how-to’s and a global developer event section, and continue other site improvements.
Across the board, we are continuing to strengthen the Red Hat Developer program as we help developers succeed with all of our products, from Red Hat OpenShift and Red Hat OpenStack Platform to the entire Red Hat JBoss Middleware portfolio, as well as the numerous open source projects that we are involved in.
The industry is in the midst of a transformation that is being led by developers. For Red Hat, the Developer program is an important element enabling that transformation. We continue to evolve, and look forward to having more and more developers join us to continue this growth.
Join us today as we celebrate the builders—the women and men that are shaping the world of tomorrow—and the role that Red Hat is able to play in helping to equip, connect and empower them. Build here. Go anywhere.
